Last week's passing of Bobby Hatfield made me wonder if anyone remembers the episode where The Righteous Brothers perform at a PTA musical.

...Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield appeared in early 1967, just before the series was cancelled, because they were under contract to MGM's "Verve" record division. And because Metro produced the TV show, they wanted a little bit of 'corporate synergy'- and publicity- to spur the boys' record sales. It was a good episode, I agree. Whether they sold more "Righteous Brothers" records as a result, I don't know.

Yes, I remember that episode! I watched it sometime during the 1970s when PDETD was in syndication on local TV. The Righteous Brothers sang a song titled "Along Came Jones". Also, Trevor and Tracy played acoustic guitars and sang "If I Had A Hammer".

There were a few more songs, but I can't recall the titles.

It seems that it has been a trend for real life popular musicians to make appearances on sitcoms , especially sitcoms with kids or teens as characters.
I recall that on "The Munsters" there was an episode which apparently was written up in light of the fact that The Beatles and Rock and Roll were so popular at the time. It had a scene in which the Munsters come home to find that some young people were having a party in their home and there was a music band called "The Standells" playing music and they played "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." I was so young back then that a few years later, I thought back to that Munster's episode and thought "Didn't The Beatles once do a guest spot on 'The Munsters' "? Much later, I found out that there really was a group called "The Sandells," but I am not sure if "The Standells" were a real group or just an imaginary group created for the particular episode of The Munsters and who's name had a slightly different spelling.
It was the same situation when I recalled a "Batman" episode that I watched when I was somewhere under 10 years old and the plot involved one of the female villains using some kind of device that takes people's voices away and the female villain put the voices in a small box. Years after originally seeing that episode I could have sworn that The Beatles made a quick guest appearance on that show when there was a scene of a rock band playing music in what I recall was a recording studio and suddenly the singers found that they could not sing or talk. Decades later I found out it was not The Beatles but "Chad and Jeremy" who I never heard of during the 60s.

Of course Davey Jones appeared as himself on "The Brady Bunch" and "My Two Dads."

I hear that George Harrison made a "guest appearance" on The Simpsons, that is his voice did.

The Standells actually was a real band that had formed a few years before appearing on that 1965 episode of "The Munsters". In fact, the band had already released a few singles and its debut album before that episode was shown. Altogether, The Standells put out five albums before breaking up later in the 1960s. You might be familiar with their biggest hit, "Dirty Water" -- it's now the theme song for the Boston Red Sox baseball team!
