HALLMARK CHANNEL’S PRESCRIPTION FOR SUCCESS INCLUDES ‘DIAGNOSIS MURDER’
Healthy Dose of Mysteries Good for Network’s Growth
Hallmark Channel has acquired the hit television mystery series “Diagnosis Murder,” to premiere on the network in December 2005.
The lighthearted drama, starring perennially popular Dick Van Dyke, proved a hit with viewers and critics alike during its original eight season run and is a healthy addition to the channel’s schedule, which boasts solid performers with built-in audiences.
“Thrilling mysteries with tongue-in-cheek humor are what ‘Diagnosis Murder’ is all about,” said David Kenin, Executive Vice President, Programming. “The series has old fashioned values presented with a contemporary sensibility – just what the doctor ordered for Hallmark Channel and our evolving family of viewers.”
Five-time Emmy® Award and Tony® Award-winning Dick Van Dyke stars as Dr. Mark Sloan, an amateur sleuth who, between healing patients and mentoring residents at a Los Angeles hospital, still manages to solve crimes with the help of his police detective son (played by the actor’s real-life offspring Barry Van Dyke).
“You’ve heard of comfort food? Call this Comfort TV: characters who stay in character, stories that move beginning-middle-end, funky familiar faces as guest stars, tidy endings tying up everything. But ‘Diagnosis Murder’ … offers all this with a little
twist,” says Newsday. “It makes the line entertainingly between old-time earnestness and hip self-awareness.”
“Diagnosis Murder” checks into Hallmark Channel in December 2005.
