Austin Tripper 11-12-2003, 01:25 AM Oh Yeah... :) BUT I got mine through the preorder online site.. and it aint here yet :( Jack77 11-12-2003, 03:17 AM While Three's Company is one of the best shows ever to be produced for television starring the legendary & Emmy Award Winning John Ritter, I would like to review the DVD itself. The DVD is ok & fair for now. The webmaster said something about a tribute to John Ritter & a preview of Season 2, but that is not on the actual DVD, just a quick read mention on the menu screen. The photo on the first page of the booklet is the one they should of used for the cover photo. Just two things that suck on this DVD are that there is no Original Air date Listing before each episode begins like most TV shows on other DVD sets. The original air dates are no where to be found on this DVD or even in the booklet & the disc does not allow you to play all episodes straight through. After each episode, it returns you to the main menu & you must click on the next episode you want to play which then brings up a listing of that episode when all they had to do was do a season one episode guide and use that as another extra. Other than that, you shouldn't expect anything more for $12.99 as this was just a rush job to cash in on John Ritter's passing! Anchor Bay & DLT were smart to agree to donate "a portion" of the DVD's proceeds to the United Cerebral Palsy foundation. But keep in mind that it's "just a portion." Anchor Bay & DLT are strictly into making money off us the loyal fans on John's behalf. I would hope that Joyce De Witt, Suzanne Somers, Richard Kline & the children of John Ritter, Audra Lindley & Norman Fell will also be paid a large profit from the sales of this DVD as we will be entertained for years to come thanks to their talented & generous contribution. Lets hope now that Anchor Bay & DLT take their time on Season #2 & get the front cover photo right & possibly ajust some minor flaws that came with this DVD & most important include a much longer awaited fitting tribute to John Ritter that The Emmy's & nick at nite failed to deliver... I am not at all disappointed in the DVD. I found mine for $12.99 and I think that's a great deal. If you think about it, the DVD is 148 min. long which is more than your average movie, which you'd be paying more for a new release (15.99 if your lucky). Sure, the movies usually have extras, but like you said a portion of this one is going to Cerebral Palsy Foundation. I do agree that the cast should get a cut too. I didn't really expect anymore than what I got because I knew that they were moving the release date from early 2004 to Nov. (now). I wasn't expecting anything extra, therefore, no disappointment. I also agree that they could have used an episode guide as an extra. From what I understand they are putting more of the tribute stuff on the season 2 DVD. Yes, they rushed the DVD to make more sales. But as I see it, being a huge fan of Three's Company, I have waited and waited along time for a release on DVD, and the sooner the better. Just my oppinion. :) Crapple 11-12-2003, 04:07 AM Jack77 pretty much nailed my thoughts exactly on this DVD. I agree that the booklet picture would have made an excellent cover, and I also would have liked the airdates. On the other hand, you're getting six uncut episodes for $12. Not too shabby. Having said that, I'm grateful that I finally own some episodes on DVD, and I look forward to owning the whole series. For years I've been perusing the TV DVD aisles at places like Best Buy, groaning at the sight of such shows as "Sex In The City" and wondering out loud, "why don't they release something like 'Three's Company' on DVD?" Now it's finally here. As for the episodes themselves...I wasn't sure what to expect. The only one I remembered offhand was the pilot episode, even though I've probably seen every episode of the show dozens of times. The cast seemed to be finding their footing in these six episodes, but even in this embryonic stage Ritter is just pure genius. Each episode on the DVD gets better and better. Plus this set gives us our first glimpses of such eventual mainstays as Mike the bartender, Dean Travers and of course the irrepressible Larry. I am of the mindset that 3C got better with age and I can't wait for the other seasons to arrive, especially the one with "Up In The Air." Jack77 11-12-2003, 05:26 AM Yes, I don't think I ever really saw the whole puppy episode straight through, so in spite of some DVD flaws, it is very exciting to see these uncut episodes as is. Don't anybody get me wrong, I am very thankful like most of you are that these greedy producers, "the real copyrighted show owners" had finally gave in & released the show on DVD as Season sets. But I really do have to say that they saw dollar signs when John suddenly passed away & decided to move up the release date. It's no secret that the producers are very shady & Joyce has expressed her own well said opinions about them, but I hope they make sure that Joyce, the Ritter family & the rest of the cast get their so deserved royalties from this DVD collection. It is only right as it is their hard work for us to forever enjoy. I also hope that Don Knotts who I just watched on The Andy Griffith Show Reunion last night on CBS will live to see his seasons released on DVD, so that he can also have the respected pleasure of enjoying it as well with his family & loved ones... Although he looked ok on the reunion show last night, it was clear that nature is slowing him down & he was not able to make it to last week's CBS 75th Anniversary show in New York. In fact although he can still see, I read somewhere that he was legally declared blind because of his poor failing eye sight! Hang in there Don, we all love you! Lets hope that Anchor Bay reads all our comments & makes the Season #2 DVD much better than the first set. I also hope there will be outakes, bloopers, rare ABC episode promos, a clip of John's Emmy speech & special commentaries by Joyce, Suzanne, Priscilla & maybe something from Don Knotts and I should hope a couple of the documentaries they did on the show with ET, TV GUIDE TRUTH BEHIND THE SITCOM & THE E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY. If Anchor Bay is smart, they will also ask Don to come in very soon to a recording studio & do some interviews & watch his favorite episode or two so he can record a commentary & just hold on to it until they come to that season for the DVD release. And of course, hopefully Anchor Bay will include the mother of all tributes to John Ritter with a beautiful montage of Three's Company clips highlighted by a Beatles song playing to it... That would be the best present & legacy that John could have left to us, his most loyal fans who all ordered or ran to the stores to pick up the first season DVD on Three's Company... Burley_Furley 11-12-2003, 05:57 AM Although I was personally glad that the DVD was released early, your right Jack77, they did see dollar signs as soon as John passed. That is wrong, they can be greedy, its all about the money. It would be nice for Don Knotts to see his seasons be released, I had no idea he is legally blind, how sad. Having bloopers, the casts interviews, and a tribute to John Ritter would be nice for season 2. Now that I have season 1, I can't wait for season 2. I wonder how much season 2 will cost, it will take like 3 or 4 DVD's to cover the whole season. Chain Gang Member 11-12-2003, 11:06 AM Me too!:D Vermillion 1 11-12-2003, 02:56 PM Picked it up today at lunch. Looking forward to watching it. I wonder, is there any way we can find out how many copies have been sold? Are future seasons' releases dependant on the sale figures of this one? allen 11-12-2003, 03:29 PM Just picked this up yesterday. It was great to see all six episodes in their entirety-----especially the pilot. Though there were two episodes (No Children, No Dogs, and Jack, the Giant Killer), that wouldn't play on my Playstation 2, but they'll play on standard DVD players. Is it just the disc? luckilab1 11-12-2003, 04:29 PM I played my DVD on my playstation and they are all worked.. so maybe Jack77 11-12-2003, 05:19 PM You know what Allen? Now that you mention that about 2 episodes not playing in your playstation, something sounds wrong here. Why would the other 4 episodes play in it but not two? I was also having a problem with my disc too. When I first inserted it into my DVD player, it would not read the disc. I had to keep opening & closing the unit & after a few trys it finally read the damn disc. Later I turned on my DVD player to continue watching some more episodes & the DVD would not read again until I played around with it. Has anyone else had any problems with their Three's Company disc? This just may be another flaw to the rushed disc. grade4 11-12-2003, 06:05 PM Originally posted by Jack77 I was also having a problem with my disc too. I needed to have my DVD player replaced because my player had the same "symptoms" that yours has... You might want to go somewhere like P.C. Richards and see if there is something wrong with your DVD player :D Burley_Furley 11-12-2003, 06:45 PM Originally posted by grade4 Umm... I don't think that that is the DVD's fault... This just may be another flaw to the rushed disc. I had the same problem yesterday with my DVD when it came to playing "It's Only Money." I returned it to Best Buy and the person at the counter looked at it and found a very small scratch. Alas, the DVD I got in return has almost the same exact problem (also with "It's Only Money," but in a different spot) so I'll have to return it again. *le sigh* Kobycigm 11-12-2003, 11:39 PM I just bought the Season 1 DVD today. My fiance has been singing the theme song all night and before today, he had never seen a single episode! Unthinkable, huh?! My question is--Does anyone know when the Season 2 DVD is supposed to come out? Will it also be featuring 6 episodes? Because there were obviously way more than 12 episodes ever made, in total, so wouldn't that mean that there'd be up to like 100 Seasons in DVDs (at least)?! Impressions 11-13-2003, 12:27 AM Originally posted by Kobycigm I just bought the Season 1 DVD today. Every season set that is released will be based upon the amount of episodes that were produced during each season of the series. vashti1999 11-13-2003, 12:29 AM Originally posted by Mariel I won't get my copy till Friday.
