I was just wondering if anyone has read Lisa Whelchel's book. If so what did you think of it. Im going to be purchasing it soon. I know Im only 20 right now but one day I hope to become a succsessful father. I think the book will be great and helpfull.

I've read some of it off of a transcript online, and it's an excellent book. She really works with your mind through it, and she's not too hard with some of the suggestions she gives to the parent. She says things like if your child says something bad, put a dash of tabasco sauce on their tongue, and say that every time you say something like that, and I will a dash to tabasco sauce on your tongue. She sounds like a really great parent, but some of her book is pretty disgusting in some of her suggestions she talks about toilet water and stuff like that, which sounds sick, but it I guess works for parents on some things.

I read Lisa's book and I loved it. Even though I am not a parent, it was very informative and easy to read. She uses a lot of examples from her life which makes it fun and interesting, and her writing style is simple. It's as if she is talking to you, one on one. Re: the toilet water, I actually found that suggestion pretty inventive. It's an object lesson for whenever a child is a smart-mouth, or uses a cuss word or sasses back; some people call this a "potty mouth." So Lisa takes the term literally for this lesson:

You fill two glasses with water, one from the tap and one from the toilet. Then empty the glasses and fill them both with Kool-Aid and ask the child which glass they'd want to drink from. [No, of course, they don't actually drink the Kool-Aid!]

When they say "Ick" to the glass that had been filled with toilet water, then you explain that's exactly what "potty mouth" is all about. "Icky."

Of course, this is a paraphrase; Lisa's version is much more eloquent. The book is a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy it.
