View Full Version : Popular shows you just never could get into
Chocoholic 11-10-2003, 03:43 PM What really popular sitcoms could you just not get into, no matter how many times you tried watching. A few for me...
I Love Lucy
All in the Family (as well as any other Norman Lear show)
Three's Company
The Golden Girls
Seinfeld
Friends
Roseanne
Married With Children
Will & Grace
Frasier
Third Rock from the Sun
Full House
Home Improvement
I never could understand the appeal of any of those shows. To me, they're just not that funny.

One Day at A Time
Perfect Strangers

TVJunkie101 11-10-2003, 07:18 PM I can watch pretty much any show. The one I just don't see the appeal in is MASH.

The Cosby Show
Growing Pains (its only saving grace was the theme song being sung by B. J. Thomas :D )

MWC was in the top 5 several seasons I believe... I was looking at TV Tome the other day and the record viewership for one episode was like 29 million viewers, so I defintely think it was one of the highest-rated sitcoms.
Will and Grace Fanatic 11-11-2003, 01:49 PM Sex and the City
CSI
CSI:Miami
Everybody Loves Raymond
The Bachelor
The Bachlerette
Survivor
The Sapranos

dawsongirl 11-11-2003, 08:42 PM Most 1990s-now NBC shows...well, pretty much all of them
Sex and the City....and anything else on HBO
All reality shows
db108108 11-13-2003, 03:19 AM MWC did very weel for itself for a whilem especially around the time when "The Simpsons" debuted. For an enitre summer, they were the top two series. But the show slid off and ranked something like 105 in its last season.
I can give any show a chance, and even watch multiple times, but not get into it. some examples from the 90s:
Frasier
Mad About You
The Nanny
Home Improvement
(to name a few)
Then there are others that I can watch seemingly infitiely, like Roseanne.
BillyK 11-13-2003, 04:37 PM Off the top of my head:
Friends
Will & Grace
Beverly Hillbillies
Green Acres
I Love Lucy
Laverne & Shirley
Taxi
One Day At A Time
Full House
Odd Couple - love the movie though

I hate when shows do that. It's like they're saying, "Our stars suck, so here's some better known actors!" And of course, "We Want Ratings!"
phoebe7165 11-14-2003, 01:17 PM 1)Cosby-enough already, N@N!!
2)Cheers!! I didn't watch Frasier at first because I thought it would be like Cheers. Now I love Frasier.
3)Home Improvement-just never could get into it.
4)Mad about You-ditto, although I like Helen Hunt.
5)Taxi-ditto
6)Everybody Loves Raymond-ditto, I've watched it and I can't stand where Debra is always getting on Raymond's case. That is not funny.
7)Lastly, those unbearable, mind-numbing reality shows, especially Survivor. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!!!:sleep2:

rjb182 12-27-2005, 01:09 PM I have my issues with just about any sitcom that's currently on the air. The only active shows I'm watching are dramas like 24 and Monk. The comedies these days just don't seem to blend with my sense of humor.
A few classics that I similarly never enjoyed:
Seinfeld (just too mean)
The Simpsons (yeah, I know it's still on, but it's a relic of another era)
MASH (a serious treatment of war makes great drama and bad comedy)
All in the Family (too darn political and dated)
The Beverly Hillbillies (Um...)
Also I find "I Love Lucy" to be too slapstick, but it is nevertheless funny at times, so it's not quite in this group...
tvfan 2 12-27-2005, 04:28 PM The Cobsy show
Cheers
Leave it to Beaver
Barney Miller
Laverne & Shirley
Will & Grace
Roseanne
Gilligan's Island
Bewitched
Fonzarelli 12-27-2005, 04:31 PM Wow, you missed some of the best shows (in my opinion)!
I *love* Married with Children, Friends, Frasier and I like Third Rock from the Sun.
But anyway, I could never get into The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Seinfeld.
Fonzarelli 12-27-2005, 04:33 PM Good question!!! Now let me see:
First and foremost I don't get the Friends thing, have never seen an episode.
I guess that's why you didn't get it (can you say 'DUH'?).
dawsongirl 12-27-2005, 05:29 PM Also I find "I Love Lucy" to be too slapstick, but it is nevertheless funny at times, so it's not quite in this group...
I used to love that show, but now I don't really like it for that reason. I've grown very tired of slapstick.
lockdown06 12-29-2005, 09:59 PM Friends Mash, Seinfeld , Cheers, Frasier, Will and Grace, Lucy, Dick Van Dyke
Classicshowsgurl15 12-29-2005, 10:55 PM Frasier
Seinfeld
I just never really liked these shows that much.
WhoStheBoss_Fan 12-30-2005, 09:16 AM the cosby show for one(worst show ever made) and the golden girls and wings, all horrible!
Uncle Martin 12-30-2005, 01:46 PM I guess have a very low standard cause I've read the thread and I would and have watch many of the shows that were mentioned and actually like the majority of them. With one exception. If ever I am captured by enemies and want to torture me, all they have to do is tie me down in front of the TV and force me to watch Rosane!!!
