View Full Version : Meredith Baxter to guest star on 7th Heaven Family Ties Forever! 11-10-2003, 03:32 AM Meredith Baxter will be on 7th Heaven. shel 7296 11-18-2003, 12:27 PM Yes she was on the show last night  Tweety 11-22-2003, 09:54 PM Although M Baxter was beautiful as Elyse on Family Ties, I thought she was just about the worst actress I'd ever seen, considering how many things she's been in over the years...(Although I was a big fan of the show "Family" in the late 70s (no relation to Family Ties) when that show originally aired, I don't really remember that much about Meridith's acting on that show...I watched it mainly because I was a Kristy McNichol fan)... Unfortunately, she still can't act... whether she's a better or worse actor than Phylicia Rashaad (Claire Huxtable from the Cosby Show), I couldn't tell you..but they were, and are, about the two worst sitcom mothers ever, in terms of acting ability... Now, I've heard she's a very good dramatic actress..which may be true..but I've never seen her put on even a decent performance... That's my two cents... I still like 7th Heaven though...I only watch two shows regularly during the week, and 7th Heaven is one of them... Tweety 12-02-2003, 12:21 AM Originally posted by Jen1982 I disagree. I think Meredith Baxter is a great actress. Granted she's a better dramatic actress. Her performances in dramas are outstanding. To say she hasn't done even a decent performance is being pretty harsh . She's A LOT better than Phylicia Rashaad. Now, I'd agree that Phylicia Rashaad isn't a good actress, but Meredith Baxter surely is. Yes, I'll grant you that it was a harsh statement for me to say she hasn't given a decent performance.... But believe me when I say this...I WANT to like her as an actress...she was beautiful when Family Ties was on, and I enjoyed that show... I really only watched it for maybe the first 3 or 4 seasons or so before I got tired of it and stopped watching...basically around the time Nick became a regular... But I still think that her comedy ability is very limited...she doesn't deliver her lines very well, and her timing is not good... I will admit that she did do some good scenes in Family Ties, particularly on those occasions when she would have a serious talk with one of the kids, or with Steven... and this points out that she is indeed a much better dramatic actress... and I've heard a lot of praise of her dramatic acting ability not just from you, Jen, but from a lot of folks...so I have to conclude that you and they are not wrong about her dramatic acting ability... but like I said, her comic delivery and timing could have been a lot better... when Family Ties was rerun on Nick at Night, I would watch them, hoping that her performances weren't as bad as I remembered, but unfortunately, most of the time they were... I think my favorite scene involving her was when Alex took off for a bar in West Virginia against Elyse's orders, and she caught him there... I thought she was very good in that episode, and it's one of my favorites...("Colonel Keaton, your mother's here" and the classic "You're coming home with me right NOW, young man!!!"...I loved that scene)..I hope you know which one I'm talking about... Again, I haven't seen any of her TV Movies, although I know she's made a number of them... and I know she's received great reviews for her dramatic ability... but IMHO, in terms of sitcom acting, she's pretty far down the list (but still above Phylicia Rashaad)... To me, Baxter always seems like she's still rehearsing, trying to figure out the best way to say her lines... she even seemed that way to me when she appeared on 7th Heaven... it's probably just me and my expectations... Anyway, hope everyone out there had a great Thanksgiving, and hope you all have a great holiday season  |
