View Full Version : Spam Spam Spam Spam
Well folks, last night while I was sitting in my favorite neighborhood bar (and sampling the new Heineken Dark Beer, which is quite tasty) some Internet fiend used my AOL account to send hundreds of spam e-mails to unsuspecting AOL subscribers.
I was really pissed to wake up today and find my AOL account had been shut down and password changed. All of that has been worked out.
If anyone here recieved some junk mail from me overnight, I apologize. It wasn't me.
What a strange weekend online it's been for me.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 11-09-2003, 01:41 PM That's happened to me soooooo many times before. I hate that. Now that we got DSL and I don't use AOL, I could care less what happens to my account.

That sucks, TJL. Did you have to call and talk to the CAT department, or were you allowed to appeal it online?

Oh, gads, been there, done that, got the lousy T-shirt...
What happened with me, though, was that some dumba*s sent me an e-mail about "Confirming Your Online Purchase" or some such. Now at that time, I hadn't purchased anything online for a long while. So I open this e-mail and it tells me to go to some site and log in for details. Well, the AOL logos they had looked pretty official, so I figured, "OK, I'll just log in and clear up this misunderstanding right now!" And I thought that would be the end of that. So I go to log in the next day and, all of a sudden, my password doesn't work. So I call tech support and find out that, thanks to that official-looking site, a crew of porn site designers were now the proud owners of my password. I managed to straighten things out -- and then spent the next three hours kicking myself.
Moral of the story, boys and girls? AOhHell may be pesky, but they will NEVER ask for your password. And hopefully nobody else around here will have to learn that the hard way.
Pitooey 11-09-2003, 05:46 PM Poor Poor TJL.......... He was out having a good time with his friends and drinking some Heineken and got Spammed!
I feel sorry for you. I'm glad you got it straightened out. Now go have another Heineken and make it a double....... Pronto.....

Yeah, I called a number and we ironed everything out. they were cool about it, and got my account unlocked. they gave me the benefit of the doubt that I'm not some evil spammer.

I've been trying to figure out all afternoon if I inadvertantly gave my password away somewhere.
Guess I'll have to be more careful.
;)
