I was watching one of my UM tapes the other day and it was the story were the handicapped lady was killed by the Sheriff of the town who lived in the apartment by hers and it occurred to me that they never showed a picture of the actual victim. They said she had just moved into town a few months earlier and maybe thats why they didn't have a picture. It made me wonder, does anyone else remember any other stories where they didn't show an actual picture of the victim?

I too thought this was strange. Plus no family members were interviewed...other than Anna's neighbor. Hers to me really stands out since there were no pictures. This one and the seggie involving the two boys who died in the fire in an old shed. The other boy's picture wasn't featured nor was his name brought up. Thought that one was odd too

Maybe they couldn't get the families permission to show the pictures.

Well in the case of anna anton didn't UM portray her in an unfavorable way - On one hand she was this religious prude and one the other the bar dwelling tramp?

In the UM segment on T.K. Hardy they didnt show a picture of him. They interviewed Lee Eptling but he was the only one that knew Hardy that was interviewed in the segment. No family members again there.

I caught that; they had no problem showing John Mooney. Has he ever been caught?

Yes he was caught several years ago and UM did an update on it. I believe he was working as an Accountant and was married with a small child. He's still in prison but I think he may be up for parole soon..if he gets it.

He was captured in 1989.

I gotta disagree. Most of the cases involving murdered and/or missing children feature several photos of them. The sexual abuse ones, of course, do not.

Did they show any photos of Harold & Thelma Swain?
They only showed a drawing of the guy who fell from the airplane.
Did they show Kurt mcFall? (Talk about an unfortunate name, considering his death)

Yes. I recall that a photo of them was shown early in the segment.

Yes, a photo of Kurt McFall was shown. And yes, it was extremely unfortunate that someone with "Fall" in his name would fall to his death. :(

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I couldn't let this go. . .

John Mooney has to be one of the dumbest criminals ever. After he was arrested, they said, "Do you know why you're here, John?" To which he said, "I guess it's about the shooting of T.K. Hardy." Then the cop said, "Well, that info isn't public yet." DOH!

I guess I shouldn't expect much from a guy who calls his business "Somebody's Pizza".

OK, you may return to your originally scheduled thread!

Well, the mistake Mooney made was that he got too nervous, I dont think he was a stupid criminal, he was inexperienced and it showed. They didnt show a picture of Hardy in the UM segment, but City Confidential did an hour long show on this case and they did show a picture of TK Hardy in that segment. Yes, John Mooney was up for parole again this year but I do not know if he got it or not. He was awarded parole in 1995, but it was canceled after the District Attorney protested and it led to a public outcry and his parole was cancelled 12 hours before he was due to be released, John Mooney was up for parole in 2002 and was denied then as well.

I was watching a crime show last night. Forensic Files maybe. Anyway they show this guy dead in his hallway in his underwear. So I sat there thinking this poor guy, not only is he dead, murdered by someone hired by his wife, but then he's for eternity shown dead in his underwear on national t.v., how sad. And they just kept showing him over and over again for no real reason.
So tell your families that if you die of some bizarre crime, in no way do you give permission for those kind of photos to be show on t.v.! :(

Speaking of that case I did find an article published from earlier this month that has Elmer Florence's side of the story:

Interesting article Crystaldawn, City confidential did a good segment on this piece, it really put the doubt in my mind as to whether John Mooney really meant for TK Hardy to die. I wasnt surprised to read that Florence was drunk when he confessed those details but they were pretty accurate. John Mooney I think would have never been convicted had he not had those notes. But Mooney, his dad passed away the same day that TK Hardy served him the eviction notice.

Good point crochetbuff - I never thought of it that way. I am still suprised at how they now show such graphic pictures. They used to spare you all of that while watching true crime shows but now it seems the more gore the better.
