View Full Version : The Brady Kids' Ages and Grades
hawaii five-o 11-08-2003, 02:00 PM The ages of the Brady kids and what grade they were in have always been up for debate with fans of the show. Here's what I think they were during the first season...
Greg: Age 14, Grade 8
Marcia: Age 12, Grade 7
Peter: Age 11, Grade 5
Jan: Age 10, Grade 5
Bobby: Age 8, Grade 2
Cindy: Age 7, Grade 1
Vegas Girl 11-08-2003, 04:03 PM In the first season, Greg would have been 13. In the second season, he once said "In another month I'll be 15."
I'm pretty sure Peter was a grade ahead of Jan.
Mijada 11-09-2003, 12:28 PM I know for sure Cindy was six in the first season because in the Christmas episode she says her age. Greg and Marcia were only one year apart.
Vegas Girl 11-09-2003, 02:19 PM I remember Cindy saying that now too. Plus, she didn't even look seven in the first season. She looked babyish. Bobby looked seven.
I also remember in the second season when the parents wanted to call a babysitter. Greg said "I'm 14." Marcia said "I'm 13."
richheart 11-09-2003, 05:23 PM The above order is correct. That was mentioned in the episode about who would get to use the attic after Greg moved out. The joke was that Cindy would have to wait a long time until she got the attic. (Of course, she would have had 3 rooms to herself by then.)
That means Jan would have been in a lower grade than Peter.
ThomasE 03-25-2013, 11:06 PM The above is not so correct as Greg and Marcia were one year apart as it has been stated during seasons one and two. Season Two has Cindy at eight years old. It is mentioned when Carol and Mike notice how the boys flock around her. She should have been seven in the first season. Most like she aged to seven during that season. A posted mentioned Cindy looked babyish and did not look seven. In reality Susan Olsen (Cindy) was eight years old!!!
Sorry about bumping this topic for those of you who will feel the need to complain...overcome if you are angry. ;)

I agree with everything there except Jan's grade; reason being? In the third season episode "Power of the Press", Peter has a teacher in the eighth grade named Mr. Price, and Jan says to Mike when the kids are talking about Mr. Price that she "won't have him until next year". Givent that, she must be in 7th grade in Season 3, which would put her always one year behind Peter.
Looking at these assumptions, by the final season, here's how each kid would have turned out:
Greg: Age 19, Senior (grade level confirmed in the final episode, "Hairbrained Scheme")
Marcia: Age 17, Junior (which doesn't make sense, considering the fact that only one season earlier, in Season 4, she begins her Freshman year at Westdale)
Peter: Age 16, Sophomore (disregard the Season 5 episode "Quarterback Sneak" where Peter tells Marcia he'll be "going to Westdale next year"; that can't possibly be, I mean there's no way he'd be in the eighth grade by Season 5!)
Jan: Age 15, Freshman
Bobby: Age 12, 6th grader
Cindy: Age 11, 5th grader

But with Jan, it is possible that she could have taken Mr Price the next year simply because her class roster won't permit her to have him for the time. Jan was going to be eligible to have her driver's license within "a year or two". So she and Peter could have been in the same grade.
I definitely agree with you with Marcia and Greg being one grade apartwith Greg being just one year older). That is how it was in the beginning. I think in season three, they switched up the high school thing making 9th grade the third junior high year. Marcia would have been in the 10th grade that season and I believe if the show had gone a sixth season, she'd be a senior. Plus with TBBVR in spring of 1977, Marcia was well out of high school and Peter had started college by this time. There was two grades difference between them.

I think they just wanted to age them really fast in the end, since they knew the show was most likely not going to be on the air too long.
In the last season, I recall Marcia a year below Greg, and then he told Peter he's giving him his jacket but the letter comes off. I think Peter was in 8th grade in the final season.
Had the show been renewed for a 6th season, I think Peter would have been a Junior. He was getting older and was looking more high school aged at this time. Marcia would have gotten the attick, and then had the show been renewed for a 7th season (which it most likely wouldn't have), she woul have moved out/gone to college, and Peter would have gotten the attic and been a senior.
We never got a 6th season, so who knows how they would have aged them, but I think one by one, had the series went on for another or 2 or even 3 more seasons, I think the plan was to ship the oldest child to the attick, until each one remaining boy and girl (Bobby and Cindy) had their own room to themselves which would have happened right after Jan graduated high school, most likely the year after Peter.
Remember, Cindy graduated high school in 1981, because that's when she was shipped off to College in "The Brady Brides".
1974- Greg
1975-Marcia
1976-Peter
1977-Jan
then skip 3 years
1980- Bobby
1981-Cindy
That's how I think they graduated high school.
Alice married Sam in 1978 or so, and I think that's when she stopped being a maid for the family. This was most likely once Jan went off to college. Carol had it easy because there were only Bobby and Cindy still at home, so she didn't mind cooking and cleaning for them since the family was now just 4 living at home once Jan left. I think that's when Alice quit. Right after Jan went off to college, because each bedroom there only needed to be one bed made up, less lunches, most likely they bought their lunch at this time or they made their own as they were old enough to do it themselves or took money to school. Plus, after 1977, I bet Bobby and Cindy were rarely home much anymore, since Bobby was old enough to drive by that time and Cindy was most likley going out with guys who took her places.
