Has anybody ever ran into somebody that had an Archie personality of a bigot. There was a skinhead in my high school. Don't know why they would allow people like them to attend school because it's like letting a murderer, rapist, drug dealer, pedohile, in the schools.

All you have to is log on the political chit chat board to see several of them.

50% of the guys I used to work with.

REALLY!!

And, when the show first aired in the 70s, I used to hear about a guy who lived near me who was bigoted & racist like that.

I have a couple uncles on my mother's side of the family that are like Archie as well as an uncle on my father's side--he actually looked alot like Archie when he was alive.

When I was a kid I used to live across the street from a man who was like Archie. We would play with their kids, his son would give my brother hockey sticks that he would cut down to his size, and teach him how to ride his homemade go cart, but he the dad would never wave to or speak to my parents.

My dad was like a Texas version of Archie Bunker. He didn't have something stupid to say about everyone who wasn't like him in appearance and thought, but he did believe some stereotypes, such as he would say "It takes a [black] foreman to get any work out of other [blacks]." At New Guinea (WW II; he was almost 40 when I was born) he took a bullet from the "Japs" that just missed his catotid artery, and he deplored Japanese products made by "them slant-eyes." Also like Archie, if he had his mind made up about how things are, no matter what the subject, he just couldn't be reasoned with.

He had other interesting parallels with Archie too, now that I think of it and having wathced about 20 AITF eps this past weekend. He thought the word "pregnant" should never be spoken, yet he used all the 'profane' words, but thought his kids should never use them. He would talk behind someone's back about them, but he would get really mad if we told that person what he said. He totally refused to discuss anything about his funeral arrangements or a will, but it turned out he didn't have to. Texas is a community property state and my mom outlived him by 11 years, and they got 2 plots my mom's parents had purchased ahead of time, thinking there should be 2 from the family who would need them.

But having said all this, he was also like A.B. in that no one could really hate him, in spite of his stubbon unchanging ways and unpleasant disposition. He was a good provider, patriotic, helped all of us when he could, and when a really tough decision had to be made he almost always did the right thing, even if a lot of griping went along with it.

My father is like Archie and it pisses me off.

My daughter was FIVE YEARS old and after being around my father for an hour came home and asked what queer meant. It broke my heart.

I want her to grow up and accept everyone for who they are..not what they are.

Archie was humorous. My father is not. I have very very little good to say about him.

It all stems from ignorance. How a person is raised has a great deal to do with their acceptance of others. Like that song in "South Pacific"....they have to be carefulyl taught..... In other words, children are born with no prejudice. Someone has to school them to hate others. Children do not automatically hate. We laugh at Archie because he's not very bright. His world only exists as far as his eyes will allow.

I didn't turn out like my father (Thank the LORD GOD every day for that). I can't imagine going through life thinking and saying the things that he does. My brother is the same way.

I dont know how my dad ended like he did because his mother, my nunna, was not like that at all. It embarasses me that he is like he is. we don't spend much time around him.

I literally cannot stand any kind of bigotry; yeah I know this simple-minded idiot that puts down anybody that is not of the white race..to me Prejudice belongs to someone who is narrow minded and ignorant; and I personally do not want to associate with someone with those low standards...

So does that mean you don't watch the show or what? I don't think anyone here enjoys bigotry! LOL. It's hard to tell on this website who are regs of shows and who just pops in to say what they hate about a show....so forgive me for asking. AITF is a show based around a bigot, so that's an already established fact and fans know where to go with it. Safe to assume we all loathe prejudice. If you don't I imagine you'd be eaten alive.

No, I love All in the Family, and I knew that Archie was just a televison character to make bigots look like complete morons and making a sensitive issue into something that was hilarious..In reality as I stated in my post I dislike any type of prejudice; but when it came to a fictional character to make bigots look like unsophiscated individuals then I find that funny...since the late actor Carrol O'Connor created such a masterful role in Archie Bunker
