I remember as a kid seeing Jean Stapleton out of character in a TV talk show once. She sounded so different from Edith.I couldn,t get over it.Edith really made an impression on me from day one.The way she talked seem to stand out for me.Needless to say,Edith would have to be my favourite AITF character.I,m just as big a fan of Jean Stapleton.I even saw her guest star on an episode of The Muppet Show.Towards the end of that show, she seemed to sound more like Edith.Especially during her closing number with Crazy Harry. She got a little Edithy.I suppose she,ll always have a bit of Edith in her. Both Jean Stapleton and Edith Bunker are among the best kind of people around.

I really don't like people like the Edith Bunker character because she was too goofy. I don't like being around people like that.

Speaking of goofy I think people are generally shocked when they see Jean Stapleton as she really is...without her Edith accent and with her almost lofty attitude. I remember Howard Stern commenting on Jean being a really hoity-toity fake in real life. Meaning she put on the dog perhaps to erase the Edith Bunker image. I have enjoyed all her non-Edith roles--at least the ones I have seen over the years that I can recall. I liked her in "Sleepless in Seattle."
