it seems like people care too much about Santa, Gifts, and money rather than familys being happy to be together and for god sakes JESUS Do any of you guys feel this way?

Yes, In a way it has. I mean I love the decorating and the Christmas shopping and stuff but people shouldn't lose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. I know tons of people who don't believe in God or Jesus but they still celebrate Christmas and Easter. Doesn't make sense to me.

I think it has become too commercial. However that doesn't mean that my family and I aren't those who recognize it only for presents and shopping. We go to church and it has been a family tradition to go to mass on the evening of December 24. So while I do think it has become too commercial, my family has always understood and known the real meaning of Christmas.

Yeah, I think it has. Considering the fact that today it's all about what you get as a gift, how much it cost, and how much did you get rather than celebrating the good things in life like being together and friendship.

Yes. I just like the Christmas feeling. Nice and warm in the house. I wouldn't care if I didn't have presents. I'd just want a tree :D

No. i dont care how commercial it is. i love it and this is what it means to me:

smelling the warm air cause it smells good cause my dad turns it on cause it smells like christmas plus its cold
riding scooters outside with my brother trying to catch a cold so i can stay home from school
annoying everyone by downloading and singing christmas carols all the time
sticking pine needles up my cats nose and making her sneeze
putting up a wee lil nativity set that i got free in the mail for some reason and a lil christmas tree that i got from my moms old office that she used to have their until she gave it to me cause i wanted it on my shelf
going to the place they sell christmas trees where game corral used to be with my dad and i help pick the tree and the people there gimme a candy cane
stacking all my presents under the tree in a special pile (the biggest on the bottom and the smallest on top) and peeking at a present or 2
buying ****loads of swiss miss marshmallow lovers hot chocolate and drinking it all the time (and putting harly any water in it, mmmmmmm)
driving around looking at peoples christmas lights all over the city 2 or 3 days before christmas
waiting for my dad to finish brushing his teeth after dinner on christmas eve so we can go open 1 present each (why he cant wait 10 minutes to brush his teeth is beyond me but its always been like that) and i get to open mine first cause im the youngest

Yeah, maybe it kind of has...but if it has, more power to it because why do I love Christmas so much then? It's so happy with all the decorations and lights and the smell of the tree and the snow. And yeah, I always am with family. Mom's side on Christmas Eve, Dad's side on Christmas. My dad's more into church...I'm not, but he makes me go anyway. I could care less about presents, but I guess that makes it fun, too, because it's exciting, especially for little kids. It's a really happy holiday and I don't care how comercial it is.

It's funny, I think back to 2 films- "Miracle On 34th St." (1947 original) & "Merry Xmas Charlie Brown". In both, they mention Xmas being very commercialized, so people have been saying this for *years*. I'm just curious to know when it began to get this way.

Yes. It's very commercial. Heh- I can remember those Crazy Eddie* tv & radio ads for "Xmas in July" sales!

Yes, but I love it. If it wasnt shown on TV as much, I wouldnt be as excited about it. Best thing about Christmas is driving around looking at the lights.

No, it's because as you, or one gets older each year? you see yourself shopping and paying attention to prices and products and advertisments...when you were a kid..it was magical! thjink about it..it's always been the same...you're adults now, or teenagers with money...as a kid, you're having fun! right? it's the same every year... don't analyze it...enjoy! :)

I read an article once that stated that without Christmas, the economy would suffer. Retailers bring in a large percentage of their profits during the holiday season, and seasonal jobs are created. I guess it makes sense that Christmas stimulates the economy.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with it becoming commercial, as long as it's commercialized the way it should be. And unfortunately, it's not. Christmas was originally suppose to be the day that Christians celebrated as Christ's birthday. Christ was obviously a very giving person, so I don't think it's wrong to pass around a few gifts from the heart on this day to the people you love. Afterall, Christ personified kindness, and love, and encouraged it greatly. I think that would be a great gift to him. I do however think it's wrong for stores to try so hard to profit on a day where we're suppose to be celebrating the life of the most selfless man in the world's history. To many Americans, and the world for that matter, all this Holiday represents is giving, and receiving gifts, and being around family. Those things are great, but I just find it so sad how so many people use a day where we're supposed to be celebrating the life of a man who made the greatest sacrifice for us, (his life, and the forgiveness of our sins), and they don't even acknowledge that. That is a tragedy in my view.

Btw, I hate Christmas because I can expect my mother to get all weird and humiliate me for no reason because she gets too controlling and all that--and for some reason, it falls on Christmas.:rolleyes: My younger brother says he also dreads Christmas.

Back to the question of whether or not Christmas is getting too commercial, funny how a lot of people who have tons of Jesus bric a brac like bumper stickers and all that don't seem to think so. Christian bookstores make a killing around Christmas season.

Yeah, it is now, but I still love it. I do think they're trying to start the season too soon. After Thanksgiving is when it should really start. I love to get gifts, but I enjoy giving them even more.

I'm aware of that. That's why I said it's the day Christians celebrate as his birthday, and not that it's the day of his birthday. I don't recall the Bible mentioning Jesus' date of birth anywhere. But, we have to celebrate it on some day.

yeahcats are my favorite animal and when i see or hear of people mistreating them it just pisses me off!

Christmas, bah. It's lost it's original focus a long time ago, so I don't even care about it. The only thing that keeps me going is decorating the outside of our house/hotel. I spend about 12 hours every year putting the lights, tree, candles, santas, reindeer, soldiers, etc., outside the house so we can be the most illuminated on the block. But two years ago some punk ass kids thought it would be funny to steal out big, 4 foot Santa and his two toy soldiers. We've had those ever since 1989 and I was pissed off like hell when they stole it. We got our Santa back the next day, but they ****ed up the wire and now it won't light up. I was alright with the commercialization, but when that happened, all my Christmas spirit went down the toilet.

In about A.D. 325, the Roman Emperor Constantine decided to get support from pagans by taking the Feast of Saturnalia, held on December 25th, and tying it in with a holiday that would please the Christians--by calling Christmas, the "birthday of Jesus"!! But don't let that bother you. It ain't evil to get presents and drink egg nog.

Yeah, Jesus was born in Bethlehem on Christmas(the Christ in the first six letters than add mas) and believe all that every one of you all believe but I chose to worship and praise God for sending his one and only begotten son and Savior and Lord. Christmas, to the secular world, is about decorations, presents, Christmas trees, missle toes, eating, advertising stuff and things to make you want to buy this or that!!

I can't stand people who are too materialistic.

for example:

An X-boyfriend of mine, grandmother, was so materialistic around Xmas time. They would put all their names in a hat and draw names of who the gift had to be bought from. Well if her gift wasn't at least worth $100 she would just have a fit. It really made me sick how her 14 year old granddaughter had to spend her own xmas money that she had gotten as a gift from other people just so her grandma wouldn't have a cow on xmas morning and ruin it for everyone. :rolleyes:
