Well, we've finally heard from our sources on that meeting that Lucasfilm held yesterday at the Presidio with their retail partners. Here's the skinny, and you guys are gonna love it... Star Wars: Episodes IV, V & VI are coming to DVD in September of 2004. The animated series of Clone Wars shorts appearing soon on the Cartoon Network will also be released on DVD, possibly before the end of this year. The teaser campaign for Episode III will begin in January of 2005, leading up to the May theatrical release. Finally... Episode III will hit DVD in November of 2005. This is going to be all over the Net soon, and you can already read more about it at Ain't it Cool News. Keep in mind that none of this is official until Lucasfilm publically announces it... but this is certainly, at long last, the real deal.
they're only gonna release the special editions though - not the originals :(
Lady T 11-07-2003, 04:09 AM damn, it is about time...They are already selling the DVD set in Japan:(

Really? I see no reason why they can't put both versions of each film in a two disc set.
I'm looking forward to seeing what extras are going to be included. Maybe they'll put in some long lost scenes that never made the cut.

From what I've read Lucas says that as far as he is concerned the special editions are the only movies that exist- the vision he always wanted.
Which is crap considering he needed no technology to make Greedo shoot first- which is the lamest politically correct move he could ever make.
And as far as I'M concerned, Lucas has done nothing but screw up Star Wars from Return of the Jedi on.
In my mind, I'd rewrite Jedi and that is the end of it.
Screw Lucas.
He doesn't care about what the fans want, much less our memories and experience of seeing the movies unaltered.
Here is a website and petition for the original trilogy on dvd asking for the original movies also along with the special editions that most people seem to think are a waste of time and are nothing but revisionist history.

I prefer the special editions. They are better than the originals.

they're flashier - but they're not the same movies that were such great box office successes in the late 70s to early 80s. I'm not a big fan of special effects - only when they're necessary for the storytelling - since these films survieved just fine without all those digital effects for 20 years, I don't care for adding them in.
Mijada 11-07-2003, 09:24 PM I've been waiting for this to come out on DVD. I wonder why it took so long. I do think that both versions should be released though. I have the ET DVD and it has the new and old versions in the same package. I don't see why they can't do the same with Star Wars.

Liza, I have the original editions on 3 video tapes. I don't have the special edition, my brother has the special editions on 3 videos also.

I have always admired George's unique way of looking at his movies; change and upgrade them when the technology becomes available. But to totally ignore the original films as if they never existed is wrong. I for one love to study the changes that have been made, as do others I'm sure.
barwars 11-11-2003, 04:29 PM This is great news!!
I read over at dvd.ign.com that it will only be the special editions, but the scene with Han and Jabba will be fixed up, and Greedo will NOT shoot first.

Really?
No Greedo shooting first?
I can almost forgive that ring around the exploding Death Star if they do that.
