Bewitched in 2005

A source at Columbia TriStar let us in on a little secret today. The company is planning on releasing the 60s comedy in 2005 to tie in with the theatrical movie. The release date isn't known at this time, and probably won't be known for a long, long time (over a year) but we thought we would bring the news to fans of the series.

I'm excited and all, but I really don't want to wait that long. I think we've waited long enough.

Yeah, it's a long time. But maybe it'll be released in 2004, I mean the news just came out... why would it take so long to get the show out on DVD? I hope it comes out earlier than planned.

I hope they decide to release it in 2004. By the time 2005 rolls around they might decide to put the idea back up on the shelf. I seriously hope that if the movie does bomb it won't affect the release of dvd sets. I personally could careless about the movie, I just want my show on dvd. And if the movie does bomb and it does affect my dvd sets then all hell is gonna break loose.

With all the negativity on this message board about the upcoming movie Bewitched, it WILL effect the release of the DVD.. Come on people. Give the movie a chance. Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman? NICE!!!!!!!!

Jim Carrey isn't going to play Darrin. That Will Ferrell guy is and I don't like Nicole Kidman.

I dislike Nicole Kidman, she's annoying. Something about her and Halle Berry annoy me the same for some odd reason.

That's another reason I don't want to see this movie if Nicole plays Samantha. I'll forever have Nicole's bad performance (just my opinion people you don't have to like it) in my mind. Every time I go to watch Liz play Samantha. I'll think about what they did to butcher my favorite show, not to mention my favorite character.

This is why I'm hoping they'll release the dvd sets first. I'm sure if the public had to choose they'd much rather have Bewitched out on dvd instead of a movie.

I hope it will be released in a season by season format. That would be great.

The season one DVD is tentatively scheduled for release on June 21, 2005. And a bit of a bonus, Tabitha: The Complete Series will be out on that day, too! Of course, please keep in mind that dates are subject to change, so keep checking TVShowsonDVD.com for the latest updates.

How long did Tabitha last for? About how many episodes? How many Seasons?

Just a little update to this. It's still scheduled for June 21. Bewitched will come in two sets, though! One set will be the original black & white version. The second set will be the colorized version. So, you choose which set you want. Both sets will be four discs and have a run time for the episodes of 917 minutes.

Tabitha: The Complete Series will also come out on this date, as a two disc set running 325 minutes.

Official announcement will come like early April (second week probably). So stay tuned for that and the special features info, if any.

This is just way to damn cool. But what about those people who want to own each set of Season One? SOUNDS PAINFUL.

Sony will offer the series in its original black-and-white form, or with episodes that were colorized years ago for syndicated reruns. They will be available separately on DVD for $39.95 each.

This tilts my decision a little. The colorized episodes will be syndicated?

No, they meant the colorized copies were used IN syndication.

Why would they colorize the original masters and then edit it when they could've colorized the syndicated episodes? Sounds funny.

The originals masters are colorized. Sony then edits out the scenes for syndication, and some networks like Nick@Nite/TV Land edit them out themselves. TVL airs the original black and white episodes currently anyway.

I think I suggested a while ago that they should do this. And a lot of people balked at the idea. "No, are you crazy? They won't do that." I'm surprised that they actually did.

If the colored episodes will be the non-syndicated versions, in other words full-length, then I shall gladly buy the colored DVD set because I can always turn off the color in the menu of my television if I wanted to see them as they orignally were.

That is the $64,000 question. We still don't know if the colorized versions are full length or not.

This movie isn't even about the show.

Will Ferrell .... Jack Wyatt/Darrin Stephens
Shirley MacLaine .... Iris Smythson/Endora
Michael Caine .... Nigel
Jason Schwartzman .... Ritchie
Heather Burns .... Nina Johnson
Sally Upland .... Maria Kelly
Jim Turner .... Larry
Stephen Colbert .... Stu Robison
David Alan Grier .... Jim Fields
Steve Carell .... Uncle Arthur

I don't know. They're remaking the bewitched tv show inside of the movie. I'm not trying to come off as rude, I'm just pissed what Hollywood has done to this damn show. It wasn't meant to be directed at you. Sorry.

Do you guys think you will buy the B&W or color version of season one??? Or will you buy both?? I think I'm going to buy the B&W version, because those are the originals. Bewitched Season 1 might not look good in color anyways

Black and white only for me, the black and white episodes being colorized makes me shudder. Like I said at another board, if it's not broke, then don't fix it, they shouldn't have bothered the b&w episodes at all, they never needed to be colorized

Entertainment Tonight showed a trailer for the movie, and neither Nicole nor Will are playing Samantha and Darrin. The movie is nothing like the show. Nicole's character is a real life witch, not an actress playing a witch.

Besides not everything on IMDb.com is 100% accurate, I'd say they're accurate probably 80% of the time

Why buy both versions? I'm sorry, but maybe I just don't understand. If you want the best of both worlds, then why not just buy the colorized set? You could always turn off the color were you ever to want to see the episdoes as they were actually shot.
