View Full Version : Didn't it seem weird.........
Frischman_Fan 11-05-2003, 09:30 PM ...how Janet's voice was light and little-girl like during the first few seasons but then become really deep during the remainder of the show, especially during the Terri era. I read that she smoked for a while and then quit. Did smoking have anything to do with her voice changing?? No big deal, but I was just curious!!
luckilab1 11-05-2003, 11:29 PM I've noticed that too.. maybe she changed it with her hairstyles to mix up her character a little bit. Just a thought.
Janet Tripper 11-05-2003, 11:34 PM Yea! there are alot of times when her voice changes:) I even think I does that when Terri is there!:) I think its cute it sounds like litte girl or something!
Unwanted Angel 11-06-2003, 12:29 AM There are rumors that at one time Joyce did indeed smoke.
luckilab1 11-06-2003, 02:17 AM i don't think smoking made her voice sound different because in the first season she had the "little girl voice" and then during the finale she had the little girl voice again.. in between she talked regular.. like she wasn't acting.
Vegas Girl 11-06-2003, 01:52 PM I was going to say that too - in the last season, her voice is high.
One ep that particularly stands out is Jack's Tattoo. In the other seasons, her voice is more husky.
Frischman_Fan 11-06-2003, 03:14 PM Yeah, I remember a few paticular episodes where her voice sounded squeaky and like she was sick but it was so sute. I think they were, "Up in the air", "Make room for Daddy", and "Grandma Tripper". Watch 'em!! :) In the "Come and knock on our door" book, they interviewed the guy who played Jim the bartender(p.54) and he said that John and Joyce smoked but were trying to quit.
grade4 11-06-2003, 08:17 PM I liked her voice in the early seasons but I also liked the episode where Jack was telling the truth... Jack persuaded Cindy and Janet to tell the truth and there was a part where Janet said "what did you say, Cindy?" I dunno where that voice came from but I thought it was so cute! You really have to watch it to see what I mean...
Frischman_Fan 11-07-2003, 12:58 PM Yeah, I remember that!! I love the part in "Up In The Air" in the beginning when Jack refuses to go to the party with Janet and she says "No, wait a minute, Jack please!" and then Jack says "Forget it." and Janet says "No, Come here" I love the way she says "Come here". It was all high and squeaky!!
Watch it and you'll know what I mean!!:)
Frischman_Fan 11-14-2003, 01:18 PM In the episode about the diamond crook when the trio get the answering machine, Jack tells Janet she can't be in charge of having her voice on the answering machine because it was too squeaky. Right when he said that, her voice squeaked!!
keithrobbins 11-14-2003, 01:26 PM i think in the begining of the show they treated janet not as fair as they treated her towards the middle to end of the show.. in the begining it almost seemed as if jack had little interest in janet, and veered more towards chrissy.. making her the actual watchdog over jack and chrissy. towards the end they gave janet a more gennuine side, who dates, and has sex appeal just like any other woman.. and that's when joyce seemed at her best!

And don't forget the change in her Italian-like accent.... She had sort of a Bronx-ish accent on the first two season. Later, her accent disappeared!
Vegas Girl 11-14-2003, 07:53 PM I never really noticed an accent. Any particular episode in mind you could refer me to?
Frischman_Fan 11-14-2003, 08:38 PM Yeah, I remember that accent. It came and went in various episodes. I remember the episode where Jack was bringing Vicky over to meet Terri and Janet and Janet is choosing whether to serve pie or cake and when Terri chooses the pie Janet asks,"What's wrong with the cake?" and she says it with an accent. That was an obvious slip of her accent. I'm sure she had an accent in real life and at times it would slip out naturally!!
Janet Tripper 11-14-2003, 08:58 PM Last night's episode Jack said something to her about her voice changing! LOL! When she was going to rec. her voice for the answering machine!:D

Definitely get it! I got mine from Suncoast, it was really cheap, like 15 bucks.
LILFACE23 11-15-2003, 12:51 AM Suncoast, we don't have that here. :( Maybe Best Buy will have it. I'll find it, I hope. :(
Janet Tripper 11-15-2003, 12:54 AM Target has it, so does Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and K-mart!!!!
LILFACE23 11-15-2003, 12:58 AM Oh, thank you so much Drummergirl. I have all those by me. I'll be in Walmart tomorrow.

Ohh... I thought that was an Italian accent... (shrugs) I wonder why Janet always said, "feets" instead of feet or foot. It doesn't make sense, wasn't she an English major?
BuffaloBill 06-15-2004, 02:07 AM of course janet had the brooklyn like accent- hey anyone who moves from (speedway)indiana to california is going to pick up a brooklyn accent....now if you believe that i've got some good old jersey swampland to sell you.
iloveJohn4 06-15-2004, 10:08 AM how would moving from indiana to cali make a brooklyn accent??
LuLu Rogers 06-16-2004, 11:05 PM yeah yeah i noticed that too...an example that i remember is...oo i dont know the name of the episode...but when shes showing jack how to do the locust or whatever...and she goes "you take one of your feets"
I noticed her accent in Jack looks for a job, when she "peeps through the peep hole" She says "This is a very rough neighborhood" in a very Bronc-ish accent.
