I personally think they're a waste of money. First of all, does it matter if one or two scenes are uncut? Also, Almost twenty dollars for a video after the first one? I think they are a waste, considering you can buy one tape for less than five dollars and tape more episodes than four.

I could see controversal, but those aren't a big matter to me...I'd rather spend money on other things. I could see if you didn't have the option of using a VCR or to tape episodes, but we do...that's just my opinion..

I agree with you all the way. It would come to a total of $1,040 to buy the complete series on Columbia House tape. I can tape 12 episodes on one $1.49 tape from the grocery store, and still get good results.

To me if something is missing that I want to see, I would pay for it if necessary. $20.00 is not bad at all. I mean there are movie we but that are $19.99. You get 4 shows for $19.99. I wish the price was cheaper, but at least I get to see the uncut version. I like see what I am missing from the syndicated runs of the show.

There's no denying the tapes are expensive, but they have to be priced at a certain level for Columbia House to purchase the rights and promote them and still make a profit since they won't be sold in the quanities of a newly released movie.

If you are happy with the Nick at Nite versions that edit out 2-3 minutes from every episode, then the tapes are probably not for you.

If you want to see the episodes as they were originally shown and meant to be, then you will buy the tapes.

When USA was airing the, didn't they edit the episodes too?. See, I don't really care about how they edit the episodes on Nick At Nite. So, ya miss a few minutes, but I don't really mind.

as a "DVD junkie", I'd rather have them master the shows onto DVD, 6 episodes a disc (remember they fit 6 30-minute S&TC episodes onto a single disc very easily). If they did that, I would buy them. But I really dislike prerecorded VHS tapes (I've been selling them off as soon as I'm able to replace onto DVD) so the only tapes I even like to have are ones I personally taped or someone taped me.

Heck, why not master these shows into DVD, 6 eps a disc for $19.99? That'd be a steal for those prices. But not on VHS...

LOTS AND LOTS of money!! which columbia house probably doesn't have right now... and a lot of people do not have a dvd player... and if you want the episodes desperate enough then you'll buy the VHS's but i still think taht tapes are better becuase they can fit more hours of stuff on them, you can record off of them, and isn't it hard to "rewind" a dvd?? I don't know because i don't have one, nor have i used one, but i just think of it like a cd, how in the hell do you rewind a cd?? you don't... so how would you fastforward and rewind and all that stuff??? i still am gonna rely on my good ol VHS thank you very much!!

DVD has fast forward and rewind and is MUCH easier to find a certain scene. It has a menu with the scenes usually and you are able to fast forward and rewind very quickly. I like VHS and hope it never gets phased out but DVD is really cool. They have Friends on DVD so anything is possible. I think it's Warner Brothers that distributes Friends.

It would have to be Paramount to do The Facts Of Life because Paramount and NBC are the same thing.

considering the rapidly decreasing cost of DVD's (you can get many catalog titles for under $15), it must not be too much. A lot of people do have DVD tho. It's gone from 2 million in 99 to 16 million last month. Which shows many people are switching over. I think if Columbia offered DVD's, they would be selling off the hook. I don't like paying $20 for a VHS tape, so I won't do it, whereas $20 for a DVD is actually a decent price. Plus, they can hold more episodes on it

fast-forwarding and rewinding DVD's are easy. There are buttons to press to rewind or fast-forward 2x, 4x or 8x.

well, that's good that you stick to VHS. But I just would personally prefer DVD since it's digital quality, takes up less space and lasts longer (at least from what they say)

Plus, Columbia House would have to fit more episodes onto a DVD considering you can hold up to 3 1/2 hours on one side.

I can FF 32X on my DVD player, the only thing I hate about DVDs is the price, they are crazy. I've heard that DVDs don't cost a lot of money to make at all. I'd rather have them on DVD as well as long as they don't cost as much as the other dvds I buy.

USA BROUGHT THE RIGHTS TO THE SHOW AND AIRED THE SYNDICATED EDITED VERISONS.

I worked for Paramount; they have nothing to do with NBC. They are seperate entities. Facts of Life is owned by Columbia Tri-star.

in a way, I feel offended for being "talked down" for the fact I support DVD. To trash DVD is like preferring cassette to cd. And yes, I would rather have the episodes on DVD because VHS is obsolete and ages badly. Ever watched a movie that's been on VHS for over 10 years? Not a very pretty sight eh? Plus, DVD shows movies in the format they are meant to be viewed, which is WIDESCREEN. Also, DVD movies have extra features that VHS tapes will never have. Which make the disc well worth it's cost. Look at how many more copies of the $30 Terminator 2 DVD with 6 HOURS of extras are selling than the bare-bones pan-and-scan $6.99 VHS.

I am sorry, but I still want Columbia House to start issuing their shows on DVD format, 6 episodes to a disc (Sex And The City proved that 6 half-hour episodes to a disc can fit easily and nicely). VHS has gotta go unless it's for taping. And a DVD of shows like FOL and DS would be a better bargain for $19.99 than for a VHS which should retail at $9.99 at the very highest. Plus, DVD users happen to like shows older than Friends and S&TC as well, so why not issue them?

I agree with John 110%! I have decided to put off joining this club for a couple of months in hopes that we can get FOL mastered onto DVD.

In addition to all the good points that John has brought up concerning DVD, another one I think that has been missed is that most new computers come with a DVD-Rom drive. I have one on my laptop and I must say, I'd really enjoy watching FOL while I'm flying.

So not only is DVD a superior format, there are more ways to view it than VHS.

If anyone has the address or the number for Columbia House, please post it. The only way they would ever release it on DVD is if there was a demand for it. I guess it's up to the DVD junkies like John and myself to create that demand.

I'm gonna be honest with you a cd cost less than a dollar to make, even a DVD. Plus they don't get wear out like tapes do. Time will tell if these tapes are worth buying. Ripping DVD's consume time, but as for making one, its alot less time to a make a DVd than it is a tape. Columbia House just wants to jip us of our money. More and more people are buying DVD players every day, there becoming cheaper. So I would definately buy it if its on DVD. As for the tape time will tell. If they have the eps. I remember seeing on FOX and USA, then by all means I'll call them and join. Columbia house offers DVD's but to stuff that they feel they want to offer.

I am in no way anti-DVD, it is a great format and will continue to grow in popularity...but sometimes you have to take what they give us and be happy with that. Will Columbia House eventually release all their series on DVD? Probably, but for now I will take them in any format they want to release them.. heck if they released them on Beta, I'd buy them!

Well im going to be honest...I own a DVD player, but i dont really care what there on...DVD or VHS. I also dont think hat they are a wast of money...I think that they are a better investment than a 700 bonzai tree. Im defianately buying them(with my own money if i have to) ANd if they do come out on DVD ill buy those too!
