The character of Mr. Horton was pretty controversial at the time. Do you think his appearance did more or less to influence child molesters? Do you think the episode made kids more aware? Has the episode become kind of a joke today, considering how lightly the show treated it and because of the fact that Gary Coleman was one of the victims?

Note: Watch the first episode of "Family Guy" for a humorous reference to this episode.

This very subject was brought up on an episode of VH1's Super Secret TV Formulas. Some of the commentators felt that this laid out a road map for pedophiles.

What I found disturbing was the casting of WKRP's Gordon Jump in the role of the child molester. After all, this was one of the most likeable sitcom actors who played a great buffoon.

But then I thought about it...maybe that's why he was cast, to illustrate that pedophiles aren't always sleazy looking guys who are obvious about it. The fact that this man, who was thought to be a nice guy and respected by the kids, did these horrible things was perhaps a stronger way of putting their point across. I don't know if that's their reasoning - I'm just speculating.

I honestly don't remember if I've seen this episode in its entirety...but it's the episode that seems to get the most notoriety.
