Hello, all!

Last summer for school I had to read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. Normally, "summer reading" books STINK, but this one is my favorite book of all time! It's SO awesome!!! Has anybody read it? If you have, what do you think?

Right now, I'm reading "Gathering Blue", which is by Lois Lowry, too. It's a "companion" to "The Giver", but I really have no idea what that means. It's a great book, though. I'm about 3/4 of the way through, and it's getting really good! Has anybody read this one? Opinions?

Thanks a lot! :D

Later. :bye:

While 'The Giver' is far below my reading level 'now', it's one of those books that are still worth reading. I loved it the first time I read it, which was probably in 5th grade, and the second time I was a year or so older, and I got an even deeper meaning from it. It's a great read for middle school grades...It's theme is rather odd...and frighteningly similar to OUR lives TODAY.

I read The Giver in 6th grade. It was a really sad, yet weird book. I didn't understand why they were killing off the old people...I guess I wasn't mature enough. But, it was a really good book.

I read "The Giver" in 6th or 7th grade. I remember I read it all in one sitting! That was back when I was still a bookworm. Nowadays the only books I read for fun are Harry Potter, lol. But yeah, it was a great book. Definitely memorable. It kind of reminds me of 1984, if you've read that.

I think I had to read it for 9th grade - yeah, I loved it too. My aunt's a librarian and she's getting Lois Lowry to visit her school.

Glad to see I'm not alone! :D

I just finished "Gathering Blue" today! It wasn't as good as "The Giver", but it was still awesome! If anybody's looking for a good read, and you already read "The Giver", go for this one!

Later, dudes!

I was only in 6th grade though, so maybe I wasn't mature enough.

I liked The Giver, I thought it was an odd book but it was still good, imo.

It stinks that some of you guys didn't like The Giver. Sometimes, when a person reads a book that they're too young for or don't understand, it ruins it for life! :( I was going into 7th when I read it, but words are my "thang", if you will.

If you appreciate good metaphors NOW, try it again. It really was awesome! :D
