I was watching one of my BB tapes last night, and I noticed how HUGE Carol's gold shoes are in the "Great Earring Caper" episode! You can see them pretty well in the scene where they all rush off to the laundry room to check the washing machine. Man, those are huge platforms she's wearing! I don't know how she can walk in those things.

Some other clothes/accessories that make me laugh:

1. Mike's black (blue?) vinyl jacket he's wearing at the end of the "Fright Night" episode, when he walks into the family room while Alice is posing.

2. The guys' white shoes/belts.

3. Those long "nightgown-looking" dresses the girls are wearing in the "Goodtime Music" song clip.

4. Carol's ahead-of-its-time mullet hairdo (what was with THAT?)

5. Cindy's dresses (mostly the first season) that were so short they showed her panties.

6. Mike's HUGE houndstooth-plaid patterned shirt.

7. Carol's huge black shoes. She's wearing them in several episodes, but the two that come to mind are when she walked out onto the back patio while Cindy and Bobby were on the teeter-totter trying to break a world-record, and when she walked into the living room while Joe Nameth was standing there. Gross!!!

Can y'all think of any others?

Those long dresses were called granny dresses and were popular in the mid 70's.

On the other side of the coin, you're right. In the first season, Cindy's dresses were ridiculously short!

Did you notice in the first season, when Marcia had ponytails, she didn't really have "hair of gold". It was brown there. They lightened it each season.

Peter's plaid pants that he wore to the party at the end of "The Elopement"

Peter's red and yellow sweater worn over the patterened shirt

Peter's gray Hushpuppy shoes

Everyone's high-water pants

(Believe it or not Peter is one of my favorite characters)

By the way, it was extremely full pants rather than dresses that the girls were wearing while singing Good Time Music.

No way, really? Man those WERE full, I thought they were dresses!

OMG, I know what you mean about Peter's plaid pants, because I just watched "The Elopement" last night on my tape! Incidentally, that line Sam says about "4 extra lamb chops and pink panties" was on that episode, so I listened carefully again, and sure enough that's what he's saying.

In addition to Peter's gray Hush Puppy shoes, I also hate Bobby's ugly brown suede Hush Puppies as well.

(Peter's always been my favorite character, too. :) )

Plaid bell bottoms.

Platform shoes.

The pants that looked like the back pockets were in the front, so it looked like the person wearing them was wearing his pants backwards (Greg and Peter wore these a lot)

Cindy's pants with the heart on the butt (she wore these in "The Hair Brained Scheme")

Jan's yellow pants and shirt (she looked like a banana)

Greg's shades in the Johnny Bravo episode

I personally wonder if the folks at TVLand doctored this and put the last couple of words in Sam's quote. I cannot see how this would fly in the early 1970s, or even today for that matter!

Yeah, that thing about "pink panties" has bothered me for a while. I think I'm gonna scout around the net and ask about that line on some other Brady Bunch sites, just to get their opinions, then I'll let y'all know what I found out.:)

It doesn't sound like something Sam would say. He wasn't too romantic and preferred bowling as entertainment.

If true, it would have been a truly shocking brady bunch statement.

Yeah, Sam was more interested in his bowling balls!

What cracked me up was that the boys, especially Bobby and Peter, would wear clothes that totally clashed. Someone mentioned Peters red/yellow sweater over a patterned shirt. The shirt by itself would have looked ok but with that vest it was awful. Half the time Bobby looked as if he just grabbed anything out of the closet and put it on without even paying attention if it matched.

I don't think you guys realize that this show took place in the 70's.......

Well, of course we realize the show was in the 70s, but it's still funny to look back at some of the clothes that they wore. Especially, as Mijada pointed out, when some of the patterns or colors just totally clash.

I'm sure my grandkids will one day look back at what we wear now and laugh.:)

Growing up during the 70's, it's funny how i can remember wearing some of these clothes, such as the plaid bell bottoms, in first and second grade. It's scary to think that people actually wore these things and thought they were cool. Thirty years from now, people will be watching shows where the characters wear baggy jeans and nose rings and they will laugh and laugh.

That's very true. I look back at some stuff that I wore as a teenager in the 80's and laugh. Tight Jordache jeans and parachute pants for example.

During season four, Jan wears some shirts with short frilly sleeves that look maternity shirts. I think she is wearing one in the episode where Peter is making the volcano.

Greg had those groovy brown pants with all the pockets, circa seasons 2 and 3. He also had a long-sleeved jersey that zipped half-way down the front, and had a big ring on the zipper handle (I'll admit -- I had one just like it).

Carol had a very shiny red-and-white checkered blouse that she used to wear during the second and third seasons.

In the episode from late in the 2nd season where Greg temporarily gets his own room(Mike's den),he comes downstairs wearing a flannel shirt, shades, and blue jeans. And the way that Greg decorated the room was awesome with those lava lamps and strobing lights and all.

Jan wore a blue dress with a HUGE yellow necktie that I always found silly. I read on POP UP Brady that the kids wore their own clothes. Marcia always seemed to be a good dresser. No ugly clothes come to mind right away. Peter was my favorite character too.

Back then Greg was my favorite dresser and YES we wore those zippered sweaters and those patch pocket pants. We were so cool back then..............

The top that looked like a maternity top was called a "smock top" and was very popular in the mid-to-late 1970s. (I grew up in that era, as you can tell.) I had the exact same sweater as Marcia wore in a few episodes - short-sleeved, with large colored patchwork squares on it, buttoned down the front. It was a "midriff"-style sweater, cut short to be worn with high-waisted pants (which were called "baggies" and were also all the rage then). In the "Goodtime Music" clip, it looked to me like Jan had elephant bells on (pants), and Marcia was wearing a granny dress. Wide white belts were "hip" back then, as were those wild plaids and prints the Bradys wore.

And we thought we looked *so* cool at the time.....

Yeah, that pink panties thing is something chefs do to lamb chops in fancy restaurants...Sam just wanted her to know she was getting some high quality chops ! It had nothing to do with pink panties !!! We always see things sexual in these days unlike the innocent 70's huh ?.....right !!!

Maybe it was a double entendre and Sam really did have a filthy mind. ;)

Speaking of clothes, have you ever noticed how often Bobby has mysterious stains on his pants not explained by the plot?

Was he sloppy or did that just kind go with the charcter?
