View Full Version : Movies that bombed that you like anyway

There are movies that crash and burn at the box office that I still enjoyed.

The Postman, with Kevin Costner. Can't explain it, just liked it.

I expected to hate Mariah Carey's, Glitter, but I didn't. I didn't love it, but I wasn't bored either.

That's all that comes to mind right now. More to follow I'm sure.

Any stinkers you that you liked?

Waterworld- I think it bombed but I liked it.

I didn't think Waterworld was that bad either. It was also one of the most expensive movies ever made- so it'd be hard to make a profit.

Also- Shock Treatment! It had a budget of $1000000 and took in only 100,000- but it's great!

When they list the business at the box office online- is that how much was taken in for the film- or how much profit?

Cable Guy- it didn't bomb, but they gave it bad reviews. And I LOVE it.

Glitter is the main one that comes to mind. I know there are others, but that's all I can think of right now.

Ouch. I didn't think it did THAT bad! I like it too.

I also really liked Mary Reilly with Julia Roberts and Willard with Crispin Glover.

Car 54, Where Are You? (the movie version, not the TV show)

That movie has Rosie O'Donnell in it and was originally made in 1990, but at the time they made the movie, the company that put out the movie (Orion) was going bankrupt, so they shelved "Car 54" until 1994, then released it to theaters, and it bombed. But I love it. :D

And you get to see Rosie O'Donnell when she had long, curly hair! Scary!

You can see her, front & in the middle. BTW, Fran Drescher was also in that movie as well.

The movie Glitter - I loved it and I thought Mariah Carey did a fine job! So fine that I became a Mariah fan. I hope she makes another movie. :)

That never played theatrically in my city. I was bummed, but I bought it the day it came out on DVD. Great movie! Especially the motorcycle chase scene!

Mariah Carey is acting in the West End next year in London, but I can't remember which play it is- I think it might be a new play altogether.

Mumford. I liked that movie. It seems like hardly anyone has ever heard of it much less seen it. I had an interesting experience when I went to that movie. Something to do with a chance meeting between myself and a lady in the theatre. I kind of blew it so I never progressed to a right and proper end to that story. I'm such a ditz sometimes.

"Star Trek: Nemesis"

Not the strongest of the Star Trek films, but I enjoyed it.

Well, it only made about 50 million in the U.S. and it cost around 80 mil to make.

I think it would have made more if they didn't open it the same week as "Lord Of the Rings - Two Towers."

What a bonehead move that was.

On another note, Another flick I really liked but really got creamed when it was released was "Mystery Men," with Ben Stiller and William H. Macy.

Yep, that would be a bomb :( Too bad, I liked it. You'd think that with the Trek following it would have done really well, since it's supposedly the last movie they're going to make. I hated the Two Towers - it was better in German ;)

Down With Love.

And Moulin Rouge didn't stay in theatres that long either, I don't think. But that was one great movie. Even if you thought the plot sucked, you'd still haveta give it some credit for the songs, costumes, and sets

Going back a few years:Blankman with Damon Wayans. I remember it not doing well in theaters, then when I saw it on cable, I liked it alot and ended up surprised it hadn't done better.
