Where has Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa been during his legal nightmare? How is Mrs. Bryant spending her time? How is she coping with the scandal spotlight?

Kobe and his wife were a theme of a spoof on the Oct. 18 episode of "Saturday Night Live." But what the couple is going through is no laughing matter. Kobe has been appearing in court alone, without his wife, on rape charges. Access Hollywood uncovered Vanessa's life.

A year and a half ago Kobe and his young wife appeared to be living the dream. At the opening of Jennifer Lopez's new Latin restaurant Madres, the newlyweds smiled for the cameras and looked like the picture of marital bliss.

A year later, the smiles were gone and the picture starkly different as Kobe faced the press and admitted to committing adultery. He says he had consensual sex with a young Colorado woman who has accused him of raping her.

"I sit here in front of you guys, furious at myself," said Kobe.

Loyal wife Vanessa, who had met Kobe when she was just a 16-year-old student in high school, had no idea at that time she would face the biggest challenge of her life.

Elizabeth Kaye, a journalist who wrote an article for October's Men's Journal, said Vanessa, who married Kobe without a pre-nuptial agreement, stands to walk away with half of Kobe's estimated $100 million fortune if she ends their marriage.

"She is the $50 million 20-year-old," revealed Kaye. "She is in a situation that her friends cannot conceive of."

So how does Kobe feel about the possibility of losing half his fortune? "He said if I lost a lot of money I would just go out and make more. Well, with this case now his options for that have reduced greatly," said Kay.

Vanessa, who came from modest means, by all accounts has quickly adapted to the good life. While Kobe's courtside she spends her days close to their $3.5 million Newport Beach estate, taking care of the couple's new baby. But to escape the recent pressures, Vanessa has reportedly been enjoying manicures at Happy Nails salon. She has also been spotted shopping for lingerie at Cassis and making regular trips to Marie's Boutique.

"Yes, we do close our shop down for celebrities so they can shop privately and have no gawking or people looking for their autographs or what they're buying," said sales associate Stacia Marie.

When Vanessa's not shopping, she reportedly dotes on the couple's dog at a pooch spa. However, when Kobe is in town they attend Sunday services together.

The thing that bugs me about this whole Kobe Bryant situation, among other things, is how everyone in the media is saying poor Vanessa poor Vanessa on every show. Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible for her, but women go through stuff like this all the time, how come the only time it's a big deal is when a celebrity wife goes through it. How about the woman with 5 kids, who's on a $15.000 a year salary who's husband is accused of the same thing. She has to worry about court costs, the raising of five kids without the luxury of having anyone's help taking care of them, and eventually what happens in that situation is the woman leaves the man, or the man goes to prison, and the woman lives in poverty for the rest of her life. That's the woman I have the most sympathy for. I never hear anyone talk about how great, and how courageous they are like they do with Vanessa Bryant. Once again, I have great sympathy for Vanessa Bryant, but I also have sympathy for the thousands of other women who have been through this, and the media should too. Of course reporting on those women wouldn't bring them huge ratings, so that'll probably never happen.

If you think Kobe is having it hard, Vanessa is put and caught between a rock and a hard place!!
