level when it came to popularity? Meaning that one was no good without the other. Richie needed the Fonz and the Fonz needed Richie. Fonzie was popular but never BIGGER than Richie. The Ratings after 1980 for Happy Days proves that.

When people think Happy Days, the first thing that comes to mind if Fonzie...not Richie. Face it, Ron had his place in the sun, but Henry ultimately took his spot as most popular character on the show. And everyone will agree, so there-LOL.

THe fact that the show went down hill after 1980 lets you know that Winler's character could not carry the show without Howard's character. Therefore, they were BOTH EQUAL WHEN IT CAME TO POPULARITY!!!!!!!!

More faulty logic, Sitty. Just because there was a correlation between low ratings and Richie's absence does not necessarily mean that there was a causation. That is simple logic which you do not seem to grasp. There are numerous reasons for the decline of the show after 1980 which may or may not have had anything to do with Richie's absence.

Also, even if Richie's absence was a problem on the show, it does not change the fact that Fonzie was still the most popular character on the show. Every character had a purpose on there and the absence of any can throw off the timing and the format. That still does not change the fact that Fonzie was the most popular character. This is not my own idea. This issue was stated on a documentary about the show with discussions from the actors themselves. They talked about how Ron Howard allowed more plots to revolve around Fonzie because it was good for the show. Ron said that he could have put up a fight against it, but it would have hurt the show not to make the most of Fonzie's immense popularity. The only time Richie objected was when they talked about changing the name of the show to "Fonzie's Happy Days." Everyone agreed that Fonzie was the most popular character of the show.

Come now, I don't think anyone is doubting Henry Winkler's talent or Fonzie's popularity. I do think its a fair statement. I mean the Fonzie-Ritchie contrast was the whole basis for the show. I think its unfair to say Fonz was better than Ritchie! The show did go downhill after Ron Howard left. The ratings prove that. Its just that after 1980 Fonzie had little or no competition. Therefore things got boring.

Fonzie was obviously more popular.And if Fonzie left te show in 1980 the show would have went more downhill in ratings then Richie probably.I don't get why you think just because ratings went down made Richie equal in popularity and don't forgot that Ralph and Potsie were huge stars ad they left at the same time.

No one said that Fonzie was "better" than Richie. I said Fonzie was more popular than Richie. Whether you think it's deserved or not, it is a simple fact, and it has been stated by Ron Howard himself.

It wasnt so much that o0o0o Ron was more popular or no...Fonzie was the best.. it was the fact that there was no more Fonzie/Richie chemistry on the show. Their friendship is what made the show so popular.
