View Full Version : Another best band poll

I know alot of you are probably getting sick of all these best band, and artist polls, but I thought I'd start doing some where the bands, and musicians are a little more evenly matched, both style wise as well as popularity wise. I just thought this would be a little better then the typical, and lopsided Britney Spears vs Janis Joplin, and NSync vs Beatles polls that we see so much of.

Of the five bands I listed, I think my favorite comes down to the Moody Blues, and Pink Floyd. I have actually been trying to figure out for close to a year which group I like better by playing their greatest hits albums over, and over again, and I think I have to just barely go with The Moody Blues. But tomorrow I may feel differently. I think that Pink Floyd was definitely the more innovative of the two bands with their amazing guitar playing, and unique sound, and lyrics, But I think the fact that I grew up with the Blue's, and can sing most of their songs note for note, makes me choose them. Had I not been brought up on their music, I'd probably go with Pink Floyd.

Anyways, of the groups I listed, who is your favorite, and least favorite? Also, who is your favorite psychadelic group of all time? Please vote! Thanks!

Out of that list I like Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane the best. I never cared much for The Greatful Dead.

I picked Jefferson Airplane because they were there, but I would
have picked The Eagles if I were given the option.

The Moody Blues is one of the best bands of all time in my opinion. They had a haunting sound all their own. I love one of their later hits, Wildest Dreams.

I was a fan of Jefferson Starship. In high school, I fell in love with their song, Miracles. I then saw them perform in concert.

I would add Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band to the list. I was obsessed with them in the 70s and 80s.

I thought Clapton was really good in Cream, but stuff since then, I dunno. Kinda lightweight...He's a good guitarist of course, but he never really grabbed my attention.

I tried to list bands that were psychadelic. The Eagles are a great band, but I don't think they'd really fit in with this poll.

I love that song too! It's actually my favorite of all the Moody Blue's songs. I especially like the eerie sound at the beginning. When me and my brother were kids, and would camp out in the backyard, he'd always play the beginning of that song to try and scare me. It never worked though. My other favorite's of theirs are: Tuesday Afternoon, Nights In White Satin, I Know You're Out There Somewhere, And Ride My See-Saw.

My favorite Pink Floyd songs are: Hey You, Keep Talking, Another Brick In The Wall, Comfortably Numb, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

LOL on your brother. That song certainly does have an eerie opening.
Nights In White Satin has a mystical sound too. I would guess that song is their biggest mainstream hit?
I love all the songs you mentioned as well as, Story In Your Eyes and Isn't Life Strange.
I haven't followed The Moody Blues. Are they still together?

The Moody Blues are touring right now.

If you want to see them Janice:

They will be in Providence, RI on November 23
and in Lowell, MA on November 30.

I also have the album "The Best of Cream" and althought I'm not a clapton fan. The band as a whole is pretty good on that album.

You're just dying to get me to travel to Rhode Island. Lol, just kidding. Thanks for looking it up for me. Tell you what, meet me there. ;)

I guess The Moody Blues have been together forever. I think the are sort of underrated. I know they have their devotees, but they never quite fit into the solid mainstream.
It could be their style of songs. It seems to me that they should be hit machines with all that talent.

Pink Floyd is one of my favorites of all time.

I saw them (without Roger Waters) on their last 2 tours.
I also saw Roger Waters solo a few years ago.
All great shows.

Days of Future Passed by The Moody Blues was one of those albums that captivated me from the moment I first heard it.

Wasn't into much of their stuff after that, but I did like a lot of individual songs, and I do have a greatest hits cd.

"The Voice" is a very underated classic rock song.

I'd love to get back to Newport, I'll tell you that.
Do you ever go there? (I'm sure you have many times)

I'd need a band I'm into more than The Moody Blues to travel that far though.

We've gone to Newport a few times. They have nice castles there. Lou's niece got married in one of those castles a few years back.
Newport's for the rich, and unfortunately, until I hit the lottery which should be soon, I'm not in the money. :)

I stayed at a reasonable bed and breakfast.
I liked the restaurants and the bars, and of course the scenery and being on the water. It seemed a fairly upbeat town, not too old, not too young. Friendly people and not snobbish at all- maybe I was hanging at the dives?

I would expect it would cost a fortune to live there though.
