I know it's only been a little over a week, but I'm just dying to know how the sales have been for the DVDs!!! There's been a very long thread on the Home Theater Forum about the sets and most people who've bought them agree that they are absolutely fantastic and that they set a new standard for classic tv on DVD! I just hope that anyone waiting to see all five seasons first will go out and buy these! I follow the whole tv on DVD phenomenon as much as I can through sites like HTF and tvshowsondvd.com, and I've come to realize that the biggest mistake we can make is to not buy a set because we want to make sure an entire series will be released first. There was recently the first TV on DVD conference and one of the main topics was classic tv on DVD--finding a market, hooking up rights holders with distributors, etc... From what I've heard from some attendees, the studios don't see a huge market for classic tv shows although they do know that there is a market. The biggest selling tv title to date is The Simpsons-Season 2 at 1.8 million copies. The bottom line seems to be that if you want to support tv on DVD and see more of it, go out and buy your favorites regardless of how many sets may or may not be released. I guess when I think about it, even having one season of a favorite show is better than having little to nothing available as in the days of VHS!
