I'd say Ellen DeGeneres she is just plain funny. Look at all she has done a top 10 sitcom for 5 seasons, sold out comedy concerts, successful books, and now a hit talk show.

My favorite comedienne would have to be Monique from the Parkers. But Lucille Ball comes in second for me.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you guys should know that comedienne is not proper English, there is no such thing. It's only COMEDIAN.

Check Webster's New World English Dictionary/AP Stylebook

But back on topic... my favorite female comedian is Lucille Ball.

comedienne is a french word that's become part of the english venacular. Like deja vu, que sera sera (spanish), quid pro quo (latin).

As for comediennes, Ellen is tops for her- her new talk show is fantastic and it's the one show I watch everyday. I also love Roseanne and Rita Rudner. I saw Caroline Rhea once, I though it was funny then, but not so much now,

Anybody ever see Elvira Kurt's comedy routine where she talks about growing up? That's a woman who needs her own show,

DB is right! Comedienne is French and it also refers to a female comedian. Hince...

You should not be concerned about grammar on a message board anyway. Who gives a hoot? What are you an English teacher?

In proper ENGLISH grammar, COMEDIENNE should not be used, it's not an actual word.

Stop being such a smartass. There's a lot of words that aren't proper English, yet they've been adapted into the English language. The same is for many other languages.

Too bad. We've been using that word for YEARS. It's already an established word in our vocabularies, so go away.
