View Full Version : Ouch! I got slammed over eye color
Devon King 03-29-2001, 11:48 PM Someone (though I don't think they're from this board) just let me have it for describing Jo's eye color as green. (Really! they said I was "so stupid" and "should pay better attention to my sitcoms.")
To keep from always refering to the characters by their proper names in fanfics, I look for little ways to tell you who is speaking or acting with clues like eye color, hair color, stuff like that.
Since our characters happen to look like some real life actresses... I think Nancy has green eyes. (Sometimes bluer, sometimes greener -- depends.) Mindy's are green, too. Lisa and Kim's are brown.
Does that sound about right to everyone? Am I completely offbase with that? <grin>
TVaddict 03-29-2001, 11:53 PM Jo's eyes are definitely green, you were right about that one. On top of just LOOKING green, I've even read articles that say they are. But, although I've never noticed you putting it in your fanfic, I think Nat's eyes are blue. I seem to remember one or 2 occasions during the show where they were referred to as blue. I would never call you on it in a fan fiction because it's really not that big of a deal. And of course, Blair and Tootie have brown eyes. Well, Blair's are "brown with green and gold flecks" but you get the idea.
ZeldaGilroy 03-29-2001, 11:53 PM I think you are right. Nancy McKeon's eyes have always looked green to me. Maybe they are more hazel though, I'm not sure. Really, I think your writing is very good. Do not let it bother you. I can't believe someone would insult you because of a mistake in eye color. It is not like a charcter's eye color effects the plot of the story or something. Just keep up the good work!
lesliem14 03-30-2001, 12:10 AM And I thought I had to deal with some petty people!! (You can borrow my oar to knock them upside the head if you want after I finish with some people! Crew can get nasty and not just weather conditions. They're called "hatchet" blades....) Anyway, if they watched the Division with it's much better film quality you would definitely notice that Nancy's eyes are green. I love your descriptions too.

Devon King 03-30-2001, 12:31 AM TVaddict, FactsFan and lesliem14 --
Thanks for agreeing with me! *Whew!* For a minute there, I thought I needed to have my vision tested. <grin>
You're right, TVaddict, how could I have *ever* forgotten the "green and gold flecks!" LOL!
Thanks for the encouragement, FactsFan. I won't let the comments worry me. (It cracks me up that someone would call me names just because they disagreed with something I wrote! <shakes head in disbelief> )
Of course, it is important to keep my options open. Hmmm? lesliem14, I may need to borrow that oar sometime! <big grin> Thanks for the offer!
TVaddict 03-30-2001, 12:40 AM They called you names? That's ridiculous. That's like freaking out over a typo in a great story. What's the point? Maybe this person sees the need to find something wrong in everything they see, and that was all they could come up with. Anyway, I'm sure this won't stop you from writing, so I can't wait to read what happens next.

BlairW_2 03-30-2001, 09:05 AM Devon King, how did you get called names and who called you them?
coily2 03-30-2001, 10:44 AM Yeah... let's bash some heads.... It's been a long week and I'm looking to take it out on someone. Anyone picking fights with the best writer on this board is an excellent target.
Devon King 03-30-2001, 10:53 AM Devon King, how did you get called names and who called you them?
BlairW_2 -- Someone who chose to review a story of mine on the www.fanfiction.net (http://www.fanfiction.net) site felt the need to call me stupid. I don't think it's anyone who hangs out around here... so there shouldn't be any cause for alarm.
I mentioned it here to get some feedback on both the topic of the criticism and the manner in which it was delivered. As I suspected, the great folk on this board have had comments of support for what I wrote and share my disbelief at the tacky way my critic chose to voice their opinion.
Devon King 03-30-2001, 11:02 AM Coily2 --
LOL!<laughing and saluting Capt. Coily)
I appreciate the vote of confidence and your willingness to rally the militia! Hopefully, my little critic has done all they can do. <grin>
BlairW_2 03-30-2001, 12:02 PM Coily - Lol!
Devon King - Well, if its not on this board theres nothing we can do about it, which you said..
But your fanfictions are, IMO amazing - dont let a peice of critisizm over an eye color let you down.

Maybe this person is just jelous because you have really great talent and they don't.
I love your fan fics too http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I personally like how you give clues about who is doing what instead of just telling us. Beautiful writting style http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Devon King 04-01-2001, 02:28 AM Hey Blair_2 and ILuvJo&Blair --
Awww, you guys say the nicest things!<grin> Seriously, thanks for the kind comments about my writing.
Thanks to everyone who has taken a moment to weigh in on this topic. Please understand that I'm not afraid of criticism -- I would just prefer that it be based on *something* that has an impact on the overall plot or character of the piece.
dali lama 102 02-09-2004, 09:12 PM Devon King, you're right about Nancy's eyes being green and lookink more blue at times and more greener at other times on Facts. Nancy's eyes have always naturally changed between green and blue, don't know how many times per day, but it depends on her mood and stress levels. And her eyes turn hazel at dusk and gray at night as well.
Mindy's eyes on the other hand are not green, but the type of eye that Ructer Hower and Harrison Ford both have. They're known to change only based on the clothes she wears. but unlike Nancy's eyes, they do not turn gray at night, or hazel at dusk. But they do turn blue if she's wearing blue, brown if she's wearing brown, greenish if she's wearing green, and gold, or honey color if she's wearing light brown.
Lisa Whelchel's eyes are either brown or light brown, and Kim Fields are dark brown.
For references, here's a pic of Nancy with bluish eyes:
dali lama 102 02-09-2004, 09:14 PM Her eyes look dark blue, I could be wrong, I could be right, just my computer.
Tell me what you see.

If you're having any problems with people just report it to the moderators, that's what they are for.

Rebel Queen 1980 02-12-2004, 10:52 AM If I were you,I'd wait for other comments, you know they may
call you stupid at one point, but they could start harassing you
and probably use bad words. So that way if that happens you
can ask the person who is they are and warn them if they bother
you again that you will report them to a moderator.
Czas na Zywiec 02-12-2004, 12:47 PM this is a post from almost three years ago  this person doesn't come to this board anymore.
natalie green 02-15-2004, 01:20 PM well i know natalies eyes are blue. they said so in the episode zsa zsa gabor was in.
dali lama 102 02-16-2004, 02:10 AM Yes, Natalies are blue, but there's also an area of brown that surrounds her pupils as well. It's more blue, though, and that's what we see.
mages_guild_wizard 04-25-2004, 08:21 PM And Blair's are either brown, hazel, or even khaki colored.
And as far as Jo's eyes, yes they are green, sometimes bluer or blue in appearance. Even on trivia quizzes that asked what color Jo's eyes are, the answer has always been green. Here's proof. Just check out the link below.
http://factsoflifeshow.tripod.com/1/id11.html
or
http://factsoflifeshow.tripod.com
you'll have to schroll down till you come up to the question: what color are Jo's eyes? and schroll down further for the answer. It's 11 questions down and another 11 answers down afterwards. And yes, it seems the quiz has already been done.
mages_guild_wizard 04-25-2004, 08:24 PM BlairandJo, you'll definitely want to check the above links as well. You'll be shocked at the answers.
julian bozo 04-26-2004, 07:03 PM I just love the Facts of Life. I never really noticed what colors the girls eyes were. I will look at their eyes next time I watch it.
mages_guild_wizard 04-26-2004, 08:25 PM julian bozo, old tapes and conventional tv may not show the best color qualities. It may be best to wait until a DVD release of FOL seasons comes out. Hopefully they'll have the true colors restored digitally instead of a rushed crappy copy like they did with Good Times. DVD is the best choice.
mages_guild_wizard 04-27-2004, 11:57 PM If Blair's eyes are brown with green and gold flecks, wouldn't that make them hazel? I've even watched the Facts of Life Reunion movie and noticed that Blair's eyes were hazel when any light hit it. Maybe Lisa Whelchel is one of those people that beleive there are only 3 colors for eyes and that hazel is brown.
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 07:00 PM BlairandJo, this is what hazel colored eyes looks like: I've got three pics of hazel colored eyes. This is also for anyone else wanting to know what hazel colored eyes looks like. Check the three pics below.
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 07:01 PM Another hazel eye pic:
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 07:02 PM And another hazel eye pic:
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 07:09 PM Now BlairandJo and anyone else in dispute over Nancy McKeon's or Jo's eye color, Does Nancy McKeon's or Jo's eyes look like the color of the eyes on the last three pics? Yes, the eye color on the last three pics is hazel, and the dictionary lists hazel color as light brown to medium brown to yellowish brown.
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 11:19 PM Here's another hazel eye pic:
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 11:20 PM And another:
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 11:23 PM Nancy's eyes don't even look like the last two pics above. The two above are in descending order(yellowish-brown) and (medium brown).
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 11:30 PM Does Nancy's natural eye color even look like this most of the time?
mages_guild_wizard 05-05-2004, 11:31 PM It's almost a gold color.
DarthMaul'sDiciple 05-10-2004, 12:01 AM Nancy McKeon's eyes are pale green with white and lemon-yellow flecks. They don't look yellowish-brown or brownish-yellow to me.
Now brown and, or yellow or orange or red tinted camera lenses may make them appear a hazelish or brownish color. I've also seen that color on Mrs. Garrett's eyes as well. And Mrs. Garrett has pure blue eyes. So that should tell you.
Sometime's nancy's eyes appear aqua colored at times. and sometimes bluish colored. But usually they're pale green with white and lemon-yellow flecks. Maybe that iris desighn is what Nancy herself may call Hazel eye. Some people would also call eyes that are yellow near the pupil area and cobalt blue the rest of the way as hazel eye.
