I wasn't alive when Mr Ed originally aired but when it came back to Nick at Nite I scoffed at it and looked down "a talking horse how dumb" But now that it's back on TVLand and I've been watching the show I've realized I was wrong. It's a very cleverly written, smart and funny show. Alan "Rocky" Lane was great in the delivery of his lines in making Ed a charming but a self-centered, haughty and sarcastic horse. No one could have played Wilbur better than Alan Young. He brought a sense of gentleness and sincereity to the role. Never once do you look at an episode and think "he's talking to a horse or the horse is talking to him?!" It just feels right.

Anyone else find this show funnier today?

I do too. It's quickly become one of my favorite shows. Wilbur and Ed is one the greatest comedy duos of all-time.

I think the writing was super. this show is funnier than most of the sitcoms on today, and they didn't have to use constant sexual inuendo humor to try to be funny. I enjoy the "Ed" reruns more than most of the garbage on TV today.

I don't watch much sitcoms today, but however I have a rather varied taste in television. I like everything from classic television to gritty drama. I think some people look at Mr Ed as a children's show or dismiss as stupid or being ridiculous "a talking horse? give me a break" If they watched it they'd realize how funny it really is. Well it's their loss.

The witty exchanges between Wilbur and Mr. Ed are just priceless. Ed is downright hilarious. He has that sarcastic humor that kills me. Of course he can turn the tears or the charm on when he wants to persuade Wilbur to do something for him.

I just discovered Mister Ed a couple weeks ago. I knew it existed, but had never really got to see it. I love it!! Mr. Ed is so funny and manipulating!! I also love Wilbur too.

I usually find old 60s sitcoms boring, being an 80s sitcom fan, but Ed is so different! I watched the show almost all day during the marathon last weekend!

I agree...it's just so sad and pitiful when people deaden their imaginations until they're totally gone.

That's like people who say Disney and Muppets are "kid stuff".

I'm almost 22 and I like The Muppets. My sister's 24 and she likes The Muppets. My parents are in their 50's and they like The Muppets. The only person in my family that doesn't like The Muppets is my 15 year old sister. I love "Muppets Take Manhattan".

Im 16 and I love the Muppets....
Muppets Take Manhattan IS the best of them all.


But back to the topic of "Mister Ed".... when I first watched it, I never really liked it.
And then when it came to TVLand, I gave it a try but I just wasn't finding it funny.

But the other night I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to watch some TV -- turned to TVLand and there he was -- "a horse named Mister Ed"

After watching it, it finally clicked.
"Mister Ed" was one of the best sitcoms of the 60s.

I just wish the DVD was a complete season and not a crappy "volume one"

Smurfs is ageless.
Barney however (and Im not one to bash childhood things).... shouldn't appeal to anybody over the age of 7.

What I hate more is when people will wear all of the muppets and sesame streets clothes.... but I bet they'd never give the time of day to sit and watch them.
