PattyLovesBooks 08-04-2005, 12:44 AM I taped a ton of episodes, including the 2-hour Father Dowling "movies" when it was originally on. I still have the VHS tapes. I am PRAYING (get it? hee hee) that they will soon release some DVD boxed sets. I will buy them all.
I also have quite a few of the Father Dowling mystery novels by Ralph McInerny, a professor at Notre Dame. Worth checking out until the DVDs come out. Many if not all of these earlier books were NOT made into TV shows.
And yes, I am a Roman Catholic. :-)

PattyLovesBooks 08-04-2005, 12:52 AM I forgot to mention that Suzanne Somers and I share a birthday---October 16! Also sharing a birthday that day is another TV mystery star, not Father Dowling, but Angela Lansbury!
Zions Mother 08-04-2005, 01:04 AM Enjoyed it. :)
Scoobiedoo30 11-19-2005, 01:36 PM I used to watch Father Downling Mysteries on PAX"s TV weekday's

George Yurich 10-09-2006, 05:20 PM Yes, I liked Father Dowling Mysteries when it was originally on whatever network it was on originally. But I have not seen it in syndication yet.
Scoobiedoo30 10-09-2006, 05:22 PM Father Dowling Mysteries aired on ABC
LarkRiser 02-28-2015, 01:35 PM I loved this show as a kid but the pilot sadly didn't hold up when I watched it a few months ago, so I never went beyond that initial episode. I suppose it's interesting to note that Father Dowling preceded a few current British "crime solving priest" dramas where the priest does FAR more detective work than......priesting.

The executive producer Dean Hargrove wrote several episodes in the third season which strayed away from the original murder mystery theme and explored theological ideas. These proved highly controversial and due to the number of complaints (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125219/http://www.jumptheshark.com/f/fatherdowling.htm), ABC cancelled the show. This was actually the second time the series had been cancelled as NBC had cancelled it after Season 1.
mets82 07-18-2018, 10:53 PM My Mother, who passed away this past December, LOVED the show when it was on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. I'd try to watch it with her but it was on so early.
Fallon97 08-20-2021, 04:17 PM Me. I like this show.
RetroGuy2000 08-20-2021, 04:39 PM Me. I like this show.
I like this show, too, although it's been YEARS since I've seen it. My grandmother was a viewer, and I started watching because she was watching it.
coffield3 10-04-2021, 08:14 PM Absolutely adore The Father Dowling Mysteries. Pure comfort tv.
