I was watching Girl, Interrupted last night, and I got the idea to post this question. Has anyone here ever been a patient at a mental hospital for any reason? I have and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.

No but a few people here do need to be checked into one.

No... but I almost ended up being admitted in the psych. ward last year. Not something I'd exactly like to recall.

Never........ but i have visited someone at the psych ward. I think it psysched him out so much he's never had to go back.

I remember having to share a room with some anorexic kid. Horrible horrible memories. Just for threatening to kill myself.

Ok, I'll be honest and say yes. I was gone for awhile in 2002... I think I said I went on vacation! :lol: I took a trip to Sutter.

And yeah, it's something horrible I'd like to forget. I believe I shouldn't have been in there but hey, whatever. I was put in there for false reasons just to be thrown away. Actually, I went in there pretty happy, life wasn't bad at all. I came out wanting to die.

I have never been in a mental hosp.
My dad was bi polar, homicidal and was suicidal after he walked in on my mom and her white trash boyfriend. Every two years in September he was have to admit himself for about a month. he has since died and i never asked what exactly happened in September of 95. To my knowlegde that was not the same month her caught my mom.

No, I've never been in one before. I have been depressed several times before and I do take meds to help with anxiety but I was never really serious. My cousin was at one for a few days though last year. He was only 9 years old then and it was pretty scary to him. I wouldn't want to go to one at that age, but I guess it was best for him to help him out. Now, he's doing MUCH better and goes to a special school for gifted kids. He's really smart and gifted.

No, but I have a cousin that was in one.

Ditto. Never been crazy enough for the psych ward though. If I ever got stuck in one, I really would kill myself.

No, I haven't, but I came very close to ending up in one. I was deeply depressed during high school -- you know how on those commercials for Zoloft when they mention how a chemical imbalance can cause depression? Well, that was me. The principal didn't understand this and she panicked. Like Miss Karly, I don't like to talk much about it. And like Cathy and BurgerMeister, I am now on medication to keep it under control. I hate having to clarify for people that no, I am NOT crazy, I have a condition like my mom's arthritis or my dad's diabetes except that the pain is more mental than physical. It's hard. :(

I thought this was a Mental Hospital?

No, but my sister needs to be in one.

When I tell people I've been in a mental ward they think of me different and assume I'm crazy. :lol:

I know the feeling...a mental hospital can be for many different reasons, not just for psychos and people who are completely insane.

Well, that's not too bad. My first time there I spent one week, the longest I ever stayed there was 2 and a half weeks. Lord knows how many times I went to that mental ward in January 2002-May 2002, like said it was just a way to get rid of me. The medications I was on messed me up though, I was on three different strong medications that had extreme effects on me.

And I had the biggest b*tch for a doctor there, Dr. Chandler. Ugh, I wish she would die. She ruined my life at the time, if it ever becomes legal to kill somebody I'll make sure I go back there. ;)

Exactly. It's so hard to explain that to people. The only reason I almost ended up in the psych. ward was because I was a very self-destructive, depressed person last year, and people were afraid of what I was going to do next. Unfortunately, I haven't changed much, but I am trying to gain control of myself. I'm not crazy.

I've met with doctors at one but never actually had to stay there (thank God)

One of my friends ended up in one last year for her eadting disorder and depression- of course she checked herself out after 4 days and isn't much better now.

yeah that's a cool song ;) But I guess it's true. I'm not crazy... and neither is anyone else here.
