I can't stand cigarettes, but here in Québec, you can still pretty much smoke anywhere you want (that's because Imperial Tobacco's headquarters are in Québec). Any puffers on the messageboards? Do you smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes. No I'm not including Pot (since it's not legal yet in Canada ;) ). My fiancé smokes Player's Light SMOOTH cigarettes, and it drives me nuts. I want him to quit smoking. Anybody have any good suggestion tips?

Nope. Never tried, never will. Although, working where I am, Im constantly around cigarettes, so I decided that if I did smoke, Id smoke either Virginia Slims Menthol 120's or Merit Ultimas.:crazy:

Sounds like my junior college. Every time I'm outdoors there, I can see people smoking. I hope I don't get lung cancer by the time I leave. I don't know what to suggest since nobody in my immediate family has ever smoked.

Sadly, I do smoke cigs.

No...I've tried but it gets to my allergies too bad.

I'm only 14 and I don't ever plan on smoking ever. It's gross and I don't understand why people do it. puke: It slowly kills you, that's all it does. And the smoke gives me a really bad headache. :(

Trying smoking was pretty ****ing stupid on my behalf. One, because I'm alergic to ciggarette smoke. I almost ended up in the ER one time. Two, my parents just spent almost 5K on my teeth, getting them straight and perfect. I'm not about to ruin them. Three, because I truly find it disgusting. My dad chain smokes, so I'll probably die of second-hand anyway, but still. I went toally hypocritical against my beliefs when I tried it, and I regret it. It's one of the most disgusting things in the world.

I dont plan on ever smoking cigarettes... they dont make you feel good or anything like drugs do (i dont plan on doing drugs either but i'd rather do drugs than cigarrettes) they just stain your teeth and make the room smell like ****. my mom smoked all my life and i absolutely couldnt stand how it felt when i breathed in the smoke. just thinking about it makes me literally sick to my lungs.

oh god my mom smoked for like 30 years and her teeth didnt look like that. im not saying its fake but it must be pretty rare and theyre porlly making it look the worst it could get to stop people from smoking.

The Health Minister is not easy on smokers in Canada, Sarah. In fact it's been a pretty nasty battle up here. I don't blame her. Like I said, here in Québec, you can smoke pretty much anywhere. I went to a concert a few weeks ago and we saw these girls who looked 16 years old smoking and I said to Caitlin "It pisses me off when I see underage smokers" and they gladred at me. heh.

:lol: I do too! And I breath out really loud and stuff to get it out of my nose and hopefully they hear. I especially do it around my aunts because I have a few that smoke and I really wish they didn't :(

Yeah, and carbon monoxide... the same stuff that can get into your house and kill you and you can't smell it. Only there's a tiny bit in the cigarette so it slowly kills you.

hahah too bad I smoked one in a library parking lot at like 11 at night...it was kinda sketchy not going lie, but a guy offered and I took him up..

I have never smoked and I don't plan to. I've seen a whole bunch of my relatives killed or sickened by it, and it's just nasty anyway. What's the point of sucking poison and carbon monoxide and Lord knows what else into your lungs just for personal pleasure?

I smoked for many years..what a gross and a very expensive habit..where I live..you cannot even smoke a cigarette on the streets...I with the grace of God, finally quit....

Quit. I never smoked a lot (seriously, maybe 10 a year) but I've completely stopped. I loved those Canadian ciggys though... anyways, I don't smoke anymore. Not a good habbit for a singer ;)

My friend's fiancé was a huge smoker (3 packs a day) and she laid down the law: he had to quit before they got married. He agreed, and he had his last ciggarette at his bachelor party - I think about two weeks before the wedding. He just did the patch, but no matter what he wouldn't smoke one more ciggarette (he wanted to get married ;) )

I sometimes smoke when I'm stressed, but I don't think I'm even going to do that anymore. I'm a dum ass to smoke at all after seeing how my mom suffered when she quit cold turkey back in 1992. She hasn't smoked since, neither has my aunt. The first time I smoked, I didn't even cough or anything. I just took to it like I'd always done it. A lot of my friends did it. About all of my co-workers do and our break room is so smokey that there's always a cloud of smoke. There's no fans or anything to filter the air and they smoke cheap cigs b/c we're all poor and I come home stinking! Most people around here smoke, but I'm going to try to stay away from it. It's just an expensive, stinky habit that I don't need.

My husband quit 20 years ago, and I quit 15 years ago. Smoking is so nasty. Quitting is the best gift you can give yourself.

I'm a smoker. I've been smoking for 11 years. I've tried to quit 2 or 3 times, but I just keep going back. What can I say, I'm addicted.

Don't quit quitting! They say the nicotine in cigarettes is much more addictive than any other drugs like heroin. It's not easy to do, but support from my friends was what made me stay smoke free. :)

Well I had a seroius heart operation when I was a baby so for me smoking would be a really bad idea.

I tried it briefly when I was about 13 though and I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. All the cigs did was make me cough and splutter and caused my eyes to water and sting. Never had any again and I'm really glad I don't smoke. Not trying to preach to anyone here but as far as I can see all smoking does is give you yellow teeth, makes your clothes and breath smell awful, and can cause serious health problems.

My grandpa's 83 and he's been smoking non stop since he was 14 although he quit about six months ago and has been much better for it as well. I can't believe he quit but I'm really proud of him. :)

I have never smoked and never will! Sadly, I know quite a few people that smoke. I have relatives that do (no one that live in my house, thank god) and lots of people at my work do. In the summer we take road trips to PA to get cheap cigarettes (they are damn expensive in NJ) and buy about 5 cartons. its good fun. anyway, i know we aren't talking about smoking weed, but does anyone else find that if you smoke up, and then follow with a cigarette, you get a better buzz? one of my friends has a theory about it.. thats enough about that though. i don't think I would ever smoke regularly, just becuase I know alot of my friends who are smokers find it difficult when they can't smoke -- during school, while with parents, at work etc. plus the whole being underage thing. it's time consuming anyway. but whatever. to each their own.

You have to be careful even as a very light smoker. It can gradually sneak up on you as you get older, and you may find yourself smoking more and more.
That's what happened to me. I started smoking as a teen, but not to excess. In my 20s, I was up to about half a pack. I always told myself that if I reached a pack a day, I would quit. Sure enough, when I was 30, I started to exceed a pack a day. I also started feeling a heaviness in my chest....like I had been swimming all day.
I quit at 30--that was 15 years ago.
Heavy smokers don't always start out that way. It can creep up. Not many people remain casual smokers throughout their lives.
Since you're not hooked on the cigarettes, you might as well stop because it won't bother you. Someday, you may have an awful time quitting. :)

I've tried smoking twice. The first time was so disgusting, I couldn't even inhale. I coughed up a storm.

The second time, I wanted to see if maybe I'd just done it wrong. Nope, it sucked. I can see myself possibly smoking when I get older, but not now. I was one of those, "Lung cancer!! Get that cigarette out of here!" Now, I figure, we're all going to die, anyway. Does it really matter how you go?

That doesn't matter, I think she knows it's wrong and that it is a YOUNG age to start. I'm 17 and even I'm too young to smoke, I'm not old enough to buy cigarettes. Even 18 is too young and that's legal, it's a stupid decision people make. Either you want cancer or you don't.

Actually it does. I lost my mother to lung cancer last year, and it was a terrible thing to witness. She usually weighed 130, but when she died, she weighed 88 pounds and looked like a holocaust victim. She was bedridden, in diapers, and half out of her mind from the morphine. The ordeal lasted nine long painful months. She was only 67.
Two years before that, her sister died from emphysema. That was terrible too. She always had to have an oxygen tank because she only had 20% lung capacity. Every breath was a struggle for her.
Two sisters, my mother and my aunt, both dead from a lifetime of smoking.
I realize that we can get cancer without smoking, but why increase our odds.

hey i have a friend who did drugs when she was 12 or 13. shes 15 now and i dont think she regrets it but she still parties and drinks.

I have heard of people smoking at as young as 9!! :eek: Not me, thank God. Both my siblings started smoking before they were of legal age. My sister was only 13 when she started, and now she's 21. She FINALLY quit in around June of this year (right around the time she turned 21) and hasn't had a cig since. I'm proud of my sis! :king: :biglove: My brother, um, I think he started when he was 15 or 16, and I'm not sure if he still smokes. He's now 23 and will be 24 in 5 more months. :)

How did you quit? I think the only way is cold turkey. I smoked for along time and when I had found out I was pregnant with my son I quit immediately. But then, unfortunately, I started back up again about 2 years ago. I've tried to quit, I just get stressed out too much every time I try. I don't smoke in the house cause of my son, I don't want him breathing it in. But it's a pain in the butt of a habit. Spending money on it, having to go outside. My dad, who also smokes, told me that when I want one to just find something to do for 2 minutes and the graving will pass. He said the graving only lasts for a couple of minutes. I've been able to do that a couple times now. I need help quiting though. Anyone have a another way besides cold turkey? I've tried the patch and gum and they both gave me heart pulpitations, it scared the crap out of me.

That's how I quit, but I know some people can't quit that way. It's been 15 years, and I still have the occasional craving during times of stress. It always passes though.

I quit cold turkey. I had my husband supporting me along the way. It took me about 2 months to stop the craving and a full 2 years to completely get rid of it. Now,13 years later,even the thought of smoking nauseates me! It is so good to be free of it! The last thing I would want right now is a cigarette! :barf:

I've never smoked and I don't plan on starting ever.
