There is a new innovation avaiable for many digital cable subscribers now available or soon to be avaliable called the DVR, which stands for Digital Video Recorder. This device will be, what is called "Cable's answer to Tivo."

Unlike Tivo, the digital box and the recorder are contained in the same unit. Digital cable is required to get the DVR. The DVR will give you VCR like functionality on every channel. You can stop, pause, rewind, fast-forward, any program on TV. You can do instant replays, have PIP on any telivision, create your own schedules for recording or playback, and record up to 50 hours of programing without tapes. You can also record as many as 3 shows at once! The unit runs about $7.00 more per month in lieu of a standard digital converter (or $5.00 more with digital value packages.)

Time Warner and Cox Cable both will soon offer this service in many areas converted to the digital systems. (if they don't offer DVR already) I was wondering if any of you had or plan to get the DVR, and if you do have it, what do you think of it? I don't have it because my family and I do not record a lot of shows. I do have digital cable from Time Warner.

I do have TW digital cable and was interested in this when I heard about it, with all the channels we get, there's so much I want to see I often miss alot. But because I'm also heavily into dvds, I decided to get a dvd recorder that has a tivo-like hard drive, where you can record the shows you want to the machine then watch whenever you like or burn it to dvd if you choose. That sounded appealing to me so I went with that instead of the TW recorder. This technology is definitely the wave of the future.
