View Full Version : Tina Louise---did she have an ego problem?
TALLguyinKY 10-24-2003, 04:03 AM Howdy "islanders"! lol :)
I've never posted here at the GI board before, but do watch it now and then. Anyway, I've been watchin' it a lot lately, and I remember hearin'/seein' references to Tina Louise about some kinda ego problem, disrespectin' her coworkers, etc.
So, would one or two o' y'all mind fillin' me in on the (sordid) details? lol
I really don't know anything about it, and am quite curious.
Thanks! :)
Byron
ficlopri 10-27-2003, 11:51 PM Ms.Louise was initially under the wrong impression that her character, Ginger, was to be the central character of the show. She agreed to do the show thinking that wrong thing. Also, she was not happy in the series. She was the only one of the GI actors not to enjoy the show much.
TALLguyinKY 10-29-2003, 06:36 AM Hmmmm...interesting, thanks...I wonder she thought she'd be the star of the show when it was called "Gilligan's Island" and not "Ginger's Island"! lol
And I wonder why she was never happy...I mean, ya think after a while she'da accepted the fact that it was an ensemble cast (yeah, with Gilligan as the lead). She sure put on a happy face for the camera!
I'm all ears for any more info anyone has...
to this day she blames it for ruining her career, when in reality, she let it ruin her career. all the other actors embraced their characters, wrote books and loved to be identified with the show. Tina was so afraid of being typecast that she took plenty of obscure roles that never made her famous. to this day she's still most famous for Gilligan's Island, and it still irritates her. She didn't participate in any of the tv-movies or reunions that the other cast members did. still, I have to say, I've seen a few interviews with her where this didn't seem to be the case at all. Every now and then she'll put on a happy face and say how proud she is of the show... but it's not constant with all her other actions. I think it's just another performance.
TALLguyinKY 11-02-2003, 12:32 AM Very interesting...thanks, Liza. :)
Screenwriter 11-03-2003, 12:59 PM I've always felt that Tina Louise and Suzanne Somers (from Three's Company) should go bowling. They both complained about their shows.

Good one, lol, and ironically, the sitcoms that they complained about put them on the map.
Mr. Television 11-04-2003, 12:42 AM I think Tina Louise has changed a little in the last few years. I've seen her give interviews about the show and Sunday she was at the CBS anniversary party representing Gilligan's Island.

TALLguyinKY 11-16-2003, 12:21 AM Yeah, but in different ways, different circumstances (from what I understand now of Tina), and Suzanne has admitted her mistakes back then. She's ready to make up with Joyce at any time (which I think they kinda have a bit recently).
