jamesanthony 05-06-2004, 03:09 PM Of the ones on that list I like the following:
Lovely Day- just how long did he hold that note for anyway?
Whenever I Call You Friend- This is a GREAT record. harmonies, good instrumentation, good interplay between stevie (whom I otherwise don't like at all) and kenny (who is good depending upon the song). Melissa Manchester's original version is absolutely awful and boring in comparison to this.
Sentimental Lady- pleasant enough
Feels So Good- maybe the very best single released in all of 1978. The unedited version is outstanding. Really holds up well 26 years later.
You're In My Heart- he's corny but so charmingly liekable starting from this record onward
Can't Smile Without You- Stagey and hammy but a lot of fun. Critics like to bash him but he's still selling lots of albums so what does that say?
Got to Get You Into My Life- better than the Beatles original, very breezy remake
King Tut- What a comical tune!
Close Encounters (Meco)
We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again- nice and breezy
How Much I Feel- very pleasant listening experience
Everlasting Love- very listenable. Liked it a lot when it first came out.
Others from 78 i like a lot:
Use ta Be My Girl and Brandy (O'Jays)
Closer I Get to You- Roberta FLack/Donny Hathaway
Our Love- Natalie Cole
Goodbye Girl- David Gates
On Broadway- George Benson
Holding On When Love is Gone- LTD
You Needed Me- Anne Murray
You Belong to Me- Carly Simon
Lady Love- Lou Rawls
Right after 9/11, filmmaker Edward Burns (The Brothers McMullen, She's The One) took his camera around New York City and filmed people just being happy and loving. The finished product, which essentially became a "Lovely Day" music video was screened at the Paul McCartney-organized The Concert For New York City (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005V1WV/qid%3D1083871166/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-1818101-8642555). It was a lovely piece.
Jrnygrl 05-07-2004, 12:39 AM Turn To Stone-Electric Light Orchestra
Theme From Battlestar Galactica-Los Angeles Philharmonic
Orchestra, Stu Phillips Conducting - (brings back drill team memories)
An Everlasting Love-Andy Gibb (I really liked him more than his brothers in 1978)
Grease-Frankie Valli (I wonder if they will play this song on the Soprano's, maybe when someone gets whacked. LOL)
Lights-Journey (love, love, love this song. Its this San Francisco based bands tribute to the city of San Francisco, it was originally written about L.A., but when Steve Perry joined the band he changed the words to reflect SF.)
Wheel In The Sky-Journey (another great song from this band)
Whenever I Call You "Friend"-Kenny Loggins with Stevie Nicks
Deacon Blues-Steely Dan
Fantasy-Earth Wind & Fire
Got To Get You Into My Life-Earth Wind & Fire (they did a great version of this song)
King Tut-Steve Martin- (you should see Steve Martin perform this song on the classic Saturday Night Live reruns)
Time Passages-Al Stewart (for a long time I thought George Harrison sang this song. sounds alot like George)
How Much I Feel-Ambrosia (this is beautiful song)
Even Now-Barry Manilow
Wonderful Tonight-Eric Clapton (not one of his best but I like it)
Lay Down Sally-Eric Clapton
Flashlight-Parliament
We Are The Champions-Queen
Follow You, Follow Me-Genesis
Just What I Needed-Cars
Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad-Meatloaf
You're In My Heart-Rod Stewart
With A Little Luck-Wings
Feels So Good-Chuck Mangione
Just The Way You Are-Billy Joel (another beautiful song by a man who was really in love)
Poor Poor Pitiful Me-Linda Ronstadt (she was at the top of her game at this point)
Sentimental Lady-Bob Welch (great song)
Jack And Jill-Raydio (before "Ghost Busters" LOL)
You Really Got Me-Van Halen
Baker Street-Gerry Rafferty
We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again-England Dan &
John Ford Coley
Boogie Oogie Oogie-A Taste Of Honey
Double Vision-Foreigner
Reminiscing-Little River Band (this song always makes me cry, beautiful song)
Lovely Day-Bill Withers (yeah he really holds that note, is it live or is it memorex??? LOL)
Feeling That Way/Anytime-Journey (this is a great band one of my favorite songs, from the Infinity album, this the first album with Steve Perry singing)

The 1972 version of this song from Fleetwood Mac, recorded when Welch was still in that group, is much better. Plus, it has a second verse not included in Welch's solo version. :)
musicradio77 05-09-2004, 11:51 PM These are the songs that I was born in 1978. I chose the song "Grease" by Frankie Valli without the 4 Seasons.
Fleet 05-10-2004, 12:25 AM My favorites (top 4) from 1978:
- Reminiscing (Little River Band)
- Dust In The Wind (Kansas)
- Hot Blooded (Foreigner)
- Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
The radio stations I listened to at the time overplayed "Baker Street" so I got kind of tired hearing it (even today).
For me, the following year (1979) was somewhat of a letdown. I liked '78 (and '77) better.
Dean Winchester 05-10-2004, 03:02 AM some of my faves from 1978
Abba - Take A Chance On Me, Summer Night City
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive
Cars - Just What I Needed, Moving In Stereo (the entire The Cars album is great)
Olivia Newton-John - Deeper Than The Night, A Little More Love (I love most of Totally Hot, that album and Physical were Olivia at her best)
Wings - With A Little Luck
Stones - Beast Of Burden
Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls
Linda Ronstadt - Tumbling Dice (well, that song was technically 77, but her Back In The U.S.A. album from 78 was nowhere as good as Simple Dreams before it, which had Tumbling Dice and others)
Bruce Springsteen - Adam Raised A Cain
Prince - Soft And Wet (his debut)
Donna Summer - Last Dance, MacArthur Park
Diana Ross - Lovin Livin Givin (not counting her work with Chic... her greatest foray into disco)
