As you probably know, TVShowsOnDVD site owner Gord Lacey spent today at the TV DVD Conference in Los Angeles.
During the conference, Paramount had a recorded presentation about their TV-to-DVD properties, and Taxi was mentioned. There was no release timeframe given. Stay tuned, and we'll have details for you when they become available.

GeorgeJefferson 10-24-2003, 03:06 AM This is the best news I've heard about TV on DVD in a while. It's great that true classics like Taxi are finding their way on DVD. I don't know why people are even taking the time to release garbage like Futurama or The King of Queens.
Classic shows like Bob Newhart, The Odd Couple, and Seinfeld deserve a shot at DVD. And more seasons of All in the Family and The MTM Show as well.

Just because you don't like those shows doesn't mean they can't be on DVD. Some people happen to like those shows and they have as much right to watch them on DVD as you do. I think Futurama is a very funny show.
GeorgeJefferson 10-24-2003, 03:48 PM Classics shoud have priority over shows like that in DVD arrival. While they may be entertaining in some respects (and there are better examples of wasted DVDs in the sci-fi category), I think DVD buyers would appreciate it if they had better quality shows, which are undisputedly classics, at their disposal. That's all I was saying.
hoosierelvisfan 10-28-2003, 02:05 PM . . . is nothing but marketing, pure and simple, IMHO. This is part of the effort to market these shows and get new viewers to the current season. It does bug the *$&% out of me that you go to a store and see all kinds of current tv shows already out on dvd, but you can't find any of the classic series. Personally, I would love to see Taxi, Andy Griffith, Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, etc., etc., etc. on dvd but I understand that there would be a greater market for the newer shows due to the younger fans. I love it that they released Battlestar Galactica on dvd but the pricetag is a bit much as of right now.

That's exactly right. I heard that since "24" would be hard to syndicate, they released it on DVD. And they had the first season set out before the second season started, that way it would spark some new interest into the show. It's all very stupid. I would prefer any other show besides the (Just my opinio: CRAP) that's on TV today. Most of it doesn't deserve to be on dvd. Of course I would prefer EVERY show come out on DVD, that way everybody can own their favorite shows. I understand that that's probably impossible. I'm not a big fan of "WKRP", but I was quite upset to hear that it won't come out because of music rights. If it ever does come out, I'll be sure to buy it. If only to show them that it's better to spend the extra money for the music rights than not to release it at all.
Taxi has always been on my list, but I must admit, I never thought it would even be considered to come out. So this news has been a wonderful surprise for me.
DianeChambers87 10-28-2003, 06:02 PM THIS WOULD BE GREAT!!
barwars 11-20-2003, 04:50 PM Although Ive never really *seen* an entire episode before, I have seen bits and pieces here and there, and from everything Ive heard this is a great series.
I think Im going to blind-buy this when it comes to DVD.
And if its not that great of a show.... its only money.
hoosierelvisfan 11-21-2003, 02:08 PM Well, IMHO, you will not be sorry whatsoever. Taxi is an all-time classic, as far as I'm concerned. It's a shame that crappy shows that are currently on can already boast of having season One, Two, Three, etc. on dvd and yet a classic show like Taxi is not on dvd yet.

Brian Damage 11-22-2003, 12:13 PM I agree I think you'll love Taxi. It is very Cheers-esque and even has a couple of Cheers alumni making cameo appearances like Ted Danson, George Wendt and Rhea Perlman.

Taxi is another series with long-range plans, with the first 3 seasons (out of the five seasons aired) are already on the drawing boards. We don't have a clue yet when the first season will hit though, nor about other already-known series like 7th Heaven. But we're keeping an eye on these, and others such as The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, too.

If you've never seen an episode before I'd wait, because IMO, the show really took off and improved in the second season. The first season was good don't get me wrong, but the second season is the one I really want on DVD.

I picked it up. Barwars, I know you ordered yours already, you won't be disappointed even though you haven't seen much of this show (or hadn't when you posted that last year). Knowing the types of shows you like, I know you're going to like this one alot.

Nope, still haven't seen a complete episode, but from what I've seen alone, I know its one of my favorite sitcoms of all time.
GeorgeJefferson 10-12-2004, 07:28 PM Does it have any special features on it?

English Mono
as special features on the back cover.

I always get a chuckle out of that.

I watched the first episode on DVD. I had it on tape from N@N way back in 1996. I've watched that episode many many times before. It was like watching a new episode with all the scenes put back into the show that syndication cut out. Even though there are no bonus features, the complete episodes are enough for me.
hoosierelvisfan 10-13-2004, 11:31 AM I want to get this set really bad. It's been a long time since I saw Taxi. Taxi was one of my all-time fave shows. I can't wait to buy this set.

Im not sure where I said, but I have said that they should release Taxi on the same day as Cheers and Frasier.
Paramount is the god of TVDVDs.
GeorgeJefferson 10-14-2004, 04:02 PM Yeah, this is a good set despite its lack of extras. I had watched the show so much that I remembered some scenes in episodes by heart and I can tell that there are a lot of minor parts that were cut out in syndication and that just makes it all the more worth watching.
Besides, they have four more seasons to add some features. And they should definitely take advantage of nearly everyone in the cast and crew still being alive to participate in a new DVD documentary. So many other shows are not as fortunate.

I doubt it, even Charmed one of Paramount's most requested unreleased shows, which is now getting released, won't have any extras at all :(
stratman 02-25-2005, 02:31 AM It's a fantastic show
TV DVD Fan 04-17-2005, 03:25 PM ok, now this is just weird. where's the third season?

This item will be released on September 13, 2005. 6/6/05 from www.tvshowsondvd.com Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the third season of Taxi, releasing on September 13. The 4 disc set will contain all 20 episodes (490 mins). There's no word on extras for the set. More info: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=3503
Dean Winchester 08-19-2005, 07:51 PM I believe we'll see season 4 around the time we get season 8 of Cheers and Frasier and season 5 around the time of season 10. If you notice the pattern, we got season 2 the same day seasons 4 of Cheers and Frasier came out, and season 3 is scheduled the same day as season 6. But Paramount's doing them in really brief intervals nowadays (only 2 months between seasons 6 and 7 of those shows), so we might get seasons 8 of those and season 4 of Taxi in February very likely.
Kiwidean 12-29-2006, 02:02 AM still no word on season 4 - it seems a shame. This is one of the all-time great sitcoms - but it seems not enough people like it :(
bmasters9 02-26-2008, 07:42 AM still no word on season 4 - it seems a shame. This is one of the all-time great sitcoms - but it seems not enough people like it :(
It seems, by your words, that more people enjoy "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "Raymond," among others, than they do "Taxi." They don't seem to want a good comedy that started in 1978 and went to 1983-- they seem to want (at least in my opinion) bad ones that started in the '90's (of course, that is just my opinion-- as goes the old saw, different people do have different tastes, I will admit). This seems to be why the '90's comedies (three of them, at least) have all individual seasons out and are also in completed series packages. The way I see it, if people didn't want the '90's comedies in the first place, they wouldn't have gotten all the way out, would they?
TV DVD Fan 02-26-2008, 09:08 AM It seems to be a lost cause, but after season nine of "Cheers" was finally announced, I can't be certain of anything with PHE.
