I was wondering if anybody worked at these retail stores because I used to work at Wal-Mart for four months!!

They treat their employees like crap and they terminated me after accusing me of stealing a video and I was off-the-clock and the jerky loss prevention manager(who has since went to another store) treated me like a criminal and his superiors took his side over mine and I said some not nice and graphic things about him. They make scapegoats out of all their employees and I have heard ever since I was terminated, that more than twenty other employees have either quit and/or be fired. That place doesn't cut anybody slack and/or give them the benefit of the doubt. Ever since Sam Walton passed away, they treat their people like slaves in Roots and/or like the Japanese in Hiroshima or the Jews in Schindler's List.

Prob depends on store to store. Overall, Kmart last, Target 2nd and Walmart 1st since they have grown the most. I view Walmart as a pit, Kmart is a step above that and Target as the best place to shop of the 3.

Definitely Walmart. :barf: I hate shopping at both Walmart and Kmart and will only shop there if I REALLY REALLY REALLY have to. The Kmart in the last town I lived in was sooooo run-down, it wasn't even funny. ohno: Based on a 0-10 rating, 0 being dirty as **** and 10 being squeaky-clean, their bathrooms get a 0. Seriously. The rest of the store- 4. :barf: And that's only me being nice!

So, it's Target for me. They actually have clean bathrooms and keep the store itself nice and tidy. It's seriously crazy.

Walmart! I hate them with a passion! I worked there in 2000 and I now have anxiety problems because of the BS I had to go through there. I refuse to shop there. Target is my favorite store and I refuse to work there because I don't wanna go through any crap and end up hating the place like Walmart.

HATE Walmart and Best Buy, never worked there or anything, just hate shopping there, I love Target, and Meijers/Fred Meyers stores

Heard Target does treat their employees like kings & queens and even though they have less variety, they treat customers like "Make yourself at home!!" and Wal-Mart is only going to get worse!!

I would have to say Wal-Mart is the worse. I haven't worked there, but I know people who have. I shop there sometimes, but I've gotten kicked out of there like 3 times for nothing. I work at Kroger and its not that great either, better than Wal-Mart, but still not great.

The manager at the Wal*Mart near me is an ass. He is really rude.

walmart, we were there once and the guy was really rude to us and kept telling us to hurry up, because the store would close soon (in an hour).

i personally love target, i live there. one of my friends works there, and he says it's great.

k-mart's cool too. but since the one near me closed (and now a walmart shall take its place) i don't really go to one.

My brother worked at Walmart and ended up quitting. He said the stress was getting to him. He hated it there. The Walmart near me is a dump. They closed the Kmart in my town, it was okay. The Target near me is always clean. I did work there for 2 months, it was okay, there was a supervisor that was a total jerk and half of the crew only spoke spanish, but basically it wasn't bad. I just don't think supervisor's have the right to use language and yell.

They are building a Super Wal-Mart in my hometown in Knoxville Tennessee and they will destroy the competition and peple who work at Kroger & Food City (the Food Lion where I worked closed down because of not enough business and Wal-Mart0. It is sad that Sam Walton's children only think of money instead of quality!!  :(

300 Illegal Workers Arrested at Wal-Marts

By SUZANNE GAMBOA

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal officials arrested more than 300 illegal workers at 60 Wal-Mart stores across the country early Thursday morning and searched the office of one of the retail chain's corporate executives, a federal official said.

Several law enforcement sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the investigation grew out of earlier probes of Wal-Mart cleaning crew contractors in 1998 and 2001. Based on recordings of meetings and conversations among Wal-Mart executives, managers and contractors, the law enforcement officials said ``various immigration violations had continued to occur with direct knowledge by the Wal-Mart corporation.''

The workers, members of cleaning crews that the company hired through contractors, were arrested as they finished their night shifts at stores in 21 states. All were in the country illegally, according to Garrison Courtney, a spokesman with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., based in Bentonville, Ark., is the world's largest retailer.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Mona Williams said the company got wind of the raids when store managers started calling headquarters Thursday morning.

``They arrested a number of members of the floor cleaning crews. They are (employed by) outside contractors; they're not Wal-Mart associates,'' Williams said.

She said the company uses more than 100 third-party contractors for cleaning services in more than 700 stores in the United States. ``We require each of these contractors to use only legal workers,'' she said.

Many of the workers said they were Eastern European and a few were of other ethnicities, Courtney said.

The arrests stem from a November 1998 investigation done in conjunction with the Pennsylvania attorney general's office. That investigation also targeted contractors and subcontractors used by Wal-Mart to clean stores.

Employers are required to check forms known as I-9's, filled out by every new employee, and keep the forms for a specified period of time. An employer can face civil and criminal penalties for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants or failing to comply with the I-9 regulations.

Courtney also said officials searched the office of one of Wal-Mart's executives. Williams could not say whether agents conducted a search at the headquarters and said she did not know of any other Wal-Mart administrative offices where searches may have occurred.

``We are currently trying to understand the scope and detail of the investigation. We are talking to (ICE) and are committed to cooperating with them,'' Williams said. She was unsure how many contractors might be involved.

The workers arrested were detained at local immigration offices, Courtney said. If they had no previous criminal record, they were released with notices to appear before immigration judges.

The states where arrests were made are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Wal-Mart has 1,494 discount stores, 1,386 Supercenters, 532 Sam's Clubs and 56 Neighborhood Markets in the United States. The company has about 1.1 million employees in the United States and 300,000 in other countries. Wal-Mart had sales last year of $244.5 billion.

I think wal-mart is the worst in my opinion. To me they are hypocrites because on all those annoying commericials they act like they're one big happy family and everyone gets a long, but one time when I was shopping at Wal-mart these employees are all totally swearing using the F word in front of customers. That is VERY unprofessional in my opinion. Actually it was just one lady doing the swearing but I didn't like. A customer is one thing, but a worker shouldn't.

Target I like the best! I was thinking of applying there and they were VERY nice to me. One lady even helped me with the application computer and wrote down the store number for me to call. K-mart is in between for me. Except most of the stores in my area are out of business now.

This is weird, I was thinking of making a topic like this today, except just for Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart is the worst, bar none, K-Mart is next worst, and Target is superb. Just a TAD more expensive than Wal-Mart and K-Mart, but it's worth it.

Though, Wal-Mart at least stands up for Gun Rights and sells guns, which Target doesn't. I still like Target better, though, and I try to give them business.

Kmart was a good company that just got ruined by terrible CEOs. I know, cuz my dad used to work at their corporate headquarters. I swear to God, my 13-year-old brother could have run that company better. Sad.

They spent all their money on private planes and remodeling stores - then they didn't do any advertising about any of the changes they made so nobody knew what was happening. They took their advertising money and tried to go into a price war with WalMart. While Kmart's prices were better, WalMart did better cuz (big shock) they advertised it! Sheesh. That company's in the ground and they've already laid off thousands of employees and closed hundreds of stores. They're hoping to bounce back, but honestly, they won't. Fortunately my dad and most of his coworkers got out in the nick of time. Several of the senior officers including their former CEOs are under federal investigation. ohno:

Yeah, Target is a little more expensive on some things, but I'll pay it, just to be able to walk out of the store not swearing.

And OMG...our Wal*Mart parking lot is horrid. I'm afraid for my car.

So true. I walked out of Target today with two VERY nice shirts that actually fit me right in the chest area (I'm a little, um...top-heavy), both for reasonable prices. The service was great, there was a great selection of clothes, etc. Target is definitely the first place I go to shop when I hit the mall. :D

Parking lots...Tell me about that one....

The bathrooms at Kmart and Walmart. OMG. HORRID. At Kmart, the ladies' bathroom always smells like **** and there's always a stall door missing.  And half the time, in the other stalls that DO have doors on them, there's....well, I'll let you fill in the blank here.... floating around in the toilets. UGH!!!!! And their floors and sinks are always dirty and wet. There's never any soap or paper towels. :p

And at Walmart, there's a bathroom with only one toilet for the ladies! It's a LITTLE better than Kmart, but still. Their door handle is broken, so it just hangs down and they installed a lock on the door so that's cool with me. Not that bad but the rest of their store sucks.

Ditto to all of that.

I like all three stores, but K-Mart and Wal-Mart could make a lot more effort to keep their stores neat and keep the **** out of the bathroom.

I've never had any problems with WalMart near my house. I go there about every other week and everyone is nice and friendly and the checkout lanes are fast. I never cared too much for K-Mart. There's only one of those left by my house and I don't go to Target very often so I can't really comment on that.

Then the question is why would anyone decide they have to take a dump while they're at Walmart? They could easily wait until they got home.

I don't mind most of my supervisors or managers, but Lea is a bit*h. She's an almost-eighteen-year-old supervisor at KMart, so obviously she's COOL.
