with the funny voice. She was tall and was mostly on the earlier episodes. She tripped me out. They should have had her on more often. The actress that played her was also on an episode of Sanford where she played Bunny, who Fred took out to make Evelyn jealous. Remember she couldn't pronounce anything right.

I remember that ding-a-ling! The only thing funny about her was her voice! I'm still trying to figure out how she and Nell became friends?

Ahh yes... airhead Angie! I loved how she picked up a Rubik's Cube, and said that every time she tried to do something with it, all the colors would line up!

Or later that same episode, when Nell tries moving in with her, they sleep on a sofabed huddled under a blanket (she was on a rent strike and the landlord turned her heat off), so she puts headphones on (to keep her ears warm) but starts dancing and snapping her fingers! Nell takes the headset from her, discovers there's no music playing and asks her, "What's all this?" (complete with snaps and arm motions!). Angie replies in her squeaky voice, "It keeps the flies away!"

I think she appeared in only one other episode, when she was at a restaurant with Nell and Addy (I forget the plot of that one, though).

I was just gonna mention that episode where Neil stayed with Angie. That was funny, lol. The lady who played Angie was a good actress, wonder if she really sounded like that in real life?

I sort of remember Angie! My trivia-head friend Peter from Brooklyn knows so well about Angie, he actually imitates her voice, like saying "Hey Nell, this is Angie!"

Also from the rent strike episode, remember Angie's mantra when she got ready for bed? Imagine, if you will, her helium voice chanting:

"I am somebody, I am somebody, I am somebody, (glancing in mirror) I am some body!!!"

"Today is the first day of the rest of the day"

"Out with the bad thoughts, in with the good thoughts... oh, I just swallowed a bad thought!"

Somebody e-mailed me today and told me she works as a receptionist. Her career in showbusiness was brief. She has mixed feelings about her experiences on Gimme A Break and Nell Carter.

Her and Nell made a great on-screen comedy team. They really should have had her on more, but once Telma Hopkins joined the cast we saw less and less of Angie.

I LOVED Angie, her giggle cracked me up. Also she was so dizzy but smart at the same time. She would say things and catch Nell off guard, Nell would give her a look like (How in the world did you know that). LOL

Looking at the episodes now Angie bares a striking resemblence to RuPaul.

Not only was Angie a ding-aling there was Angie's teddy bear to deal with. Everytime I hear that bear say, "I'm Mr. Bear, and if you don't fall asleep, I'll eat you," I just burst out laughing.

How about the episode where Angie and Nell go out to a singles bar and try their luck at snagging a man. Angie and Nell are sitting at the bar and Angie (in her infinite wisdom) blurts out to Nell, not realizing she's actually looking in to the mirror behind the bar:

"Look Nell, there's another room just like this one!"

Telma Hopkins played Addy Wilson on "Gimme A Break" from 1984-87. She also went on to play Rachel Crawford, Harriette's sister, on "Family Matter's" from 1989-94. Also, from 1971-76, she was in Tony Orlando & Dawn as half of Dawn, & had several hit songs in the 70's. "Tie A Yellow Ribbon," "Sweet Gypsy Rose," etc.

I heard that Telma Hopkins was the speaking voice on the 'Theme from Shaft'
She did the 'shut your mouth' bit.
I'll try to find the article where she mentions this.

She was hysterical. When Nell moves in with her, when she has a fight with The Chief is one of my favorites.
