View Full Version : FOL Mania is starting to wane..
Wow, where have all the posts gone? It used to be the first page would have about 2-3 days worth of topics now it is like 6. Traffic to the FOL site is way down while traffic to the DS site is way up (not totally unexpected).
I have to think that having only one episode on a night hurts, but what are the other factors? Are people just tired of the show already? I expected to see a gradual drop-off after the first cycle through, but not like this.
coily2 03-16-2001, 01:26 PM I'm still here, TJ http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif
I think that the general consensus on this board is that the best years of FOL are at Eastland and the Edna's Edibles years. Now we are only seeing 1 episode a night, and to make matters worse, we have hit, in my opinion, the years where the show was a lame horse and should've been put out of it's misery. Besides, the pastel colors, inflatable cacti, and mullet cuts bring back too many unbearable flashbacks for some of us older posters http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
I hope we see postings here pick back up when we start over in a couple of weeks.
Thank you coily2, you have probably hit the nail on the head.
I have noticed you have even ventured onto some of the other sitcom boards to get your daily fix. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Maybe that's an idea for some other people, guys use the other boards please!
BlairW_2 03-16-2001, 04:22 PM I'm here, also. I visit some of the other boards. I think that the reason the posts are dying down is probably not only one episode a night, but the fact that DS is not on N@N and some people who never saw it before are starting to like it more than FOL, since they've seen FOL since September and DS only this week.
KerriBerri687 03-16-2001, 04:39 PM i still post everyday! i don't even like DS! fol is the best!!!!
ThomasE 03-16-2001, 05:25 PM Well I haven't been posting on this board as much because the topics aren't what they used to be. Some are indirect FOl topics. However I still post on this board and others periodically. I'm not going to stop posting I've got almost a thousand posts. LOL.
Love The Facts Of Life 03-16-2001, 05:26 PM I've realized there are'nt as many post 2.I did'nt have a chance to get on yesterday http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif and there are'nt that many new post and when I first started posting here I would have hade a ton of post to read http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif but I think the fan fiction board is really growing.

Jo:I don't know you got to admit:Force has some good points.
Blair:Jo's hoping to attend the Chuck Norris School Of Law.
Blair:If I don't spend money soon, well I'll just pull all my hair out.
Jo:Good,we'll finally get to see what color the roots are.
Jo Polniaczec 03-16-2001, 06:09 PM yeah
TVaddict 03-16-2001, 08:34 PM Another reason I'm thinking is that we're seeing the same old episodes right now. It's not like before where we'd collectively be really excited about certain episodes, but right now we're just seeing the same things as before. If they showed us some new episodes maybe we'd be excited, but right now we're just at a lull. Things will pick up again. We just need time.
Mary Covey 03-16-2001, 10:08 PM TJ, I'm here too.
My reason is probably because I've wanted to try posting a topic, but then, it already been posted by someone else. The bad thing is, I don't tape the show because my mom won't let me, because she hates FOL and DS! (well, she tolerates FOL, but can't stand DS) I'm gonna try posting more, now that I'm above my 100th post! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
And, I would be posting for CIC, but it's on when I'm in school! Bummer.

i agree. at this point in the show i like DS better than FOL because i've never seen DS b4. i haven't seen this season of FOL but the eps. don't seem all that interesting right now.
i still come here every day as well http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.
The Obsolete Man 03-16-2001, 11:05 PM I lurk.
However, I would never say I like DS better than FOL.
I mean, FOL drew me in from the first episode I watched. Something about the characters just got me interested.
But Diff'rent Strokes seems like yer basic sitcom.
Cokies 03-16-2001, 11:16 PM Obsolete Man- Exactly! Diff'rent Strokes is just your basic sitcom, funny though. But your basic characters and everything...
The 'Facts' was just plain good.(Not counting the last few seasons, those in which still had their moments). It did definitely suck me in the first episode I saw. Diff'rent Strokes however, did not.
C'mon, you guys have to agree that Fol has something that DS does not, despite the so called loss of intrest.

LaverneShirley 03-16-2001, 11:39 PM Well, there's a few reasons I haven't been posting that much. But first, I'm glad we're in the later seasons. They're my favorites. Anyway, one reason is that the AOL boards are finally back up, and those were like my online home for over a year. Second of all, it's the third quarter in school, which is when the teachers decide to make everything harder at my school. It doesn't help that I'm in the accelerated classes so everythings fast-paced to begin with, now it's even faster as teachers realize there's only 50 days left of school and still a lot of material to cover. So I'm having more homework and studying to do than ever. The third reason is, my computer's been acting super-slow lately. Fourth reason, for two years I lived on the internet and now I'm getting quite tired of it. Lately I'm always feeling like curling up and reading a good book which I used to always do before I became obsessed with TV. And the last reason is, I'm finding that there aren't any topics about FOL I care to start, and I don't even read half the topics because they don't catch my interest. I skip any with "Jo" or "Nancy" in the title because I'm tired of all the Jo/Nancy talk. Nancy's a great actress, but she wasn't the whole show. She was only 20% in seasons 2-6, 14% in season 7, 17% in season 8, and 14% in season 9. Not the whole show at all. Okay, I'll stop rambling now.

FOL-FAN 03-16-2001, 11:43 PM I agree FOL definitely has something. Don't ask me what it is though. It just draws you in.
As for the traffic, I've just been to the DS board and it doesn't seem to be much action. Only 2 posts today.
FOL & DS fan 4ever 03-17-2001, 12:47 AM Well, although I am new here I did notice that it seems a little strange that there seems to be a lost less daily postings on this board compared to the average message board for any given topic that has 2000+ members...so I too kind of guessed that FOL mania is fading.
Being a DS fan as well as a FOL fan, along with the fact that DS just started on N@N, I am kind of "taking a break" from FOL mania for a while now (not to mention that I am way behind on my graduate thesis). This doesn't mean that I love FOL any less. Also, I hate to admit it but I feel the same way as ya'll- I am not as crazy about seasons 7-9 compared to seasons 2-6.

BlairW_1 03-17-2001, 03:31 AM Don't worry, I'll NEVER leave! (Unless I die or something...) NEway, I've tried 2 watch DS, but I can't. Mostly, I've been reading Mary Higgins Clark, ~n~ getting on here. I try to revive old topics, too.

Devastation26 03-17-2001, 11:00 PM A lot of my school's club are having their competitions, so that's why I haven't posted much in the last few weeks. But, now, I'm back for a while (except when I'm playing NASCAR Heat (that game is GREAT! (that is the opinion of me and does not reflect the opinion of anyone else unless another person says it's great, then that's their opinion too.......)

80skid 03-20-2001, 04:37 PM Frankly, I don't think I'll ever leave. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I'm actually not kidding... I love FOL and for a long time I thought, aside from two of my friends who loved it (don't know why they don't now though), I was the only FOL fan but let me tell you I'm glad I found out I was wrong!!!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
So I'll just say one more thing - I'm glad to be part of this board!

The boards are at AOL Keyword TVLand. From there you click on the Boardroom Button

jayman75 03-20-2001, 11:29 PM I have to agree with Laverne and Shirley about her 4th topic (I think). The posts have pretty much covered every possible option. I used to get on here regularly, because I have always enjoyed the show, and thought it would be great to share with people. However, it's come down to too many things to try and sift through, and so many repeated topics that it's not *worth* it to sift through. So, I check in 1-2 times a week, but I don't post nearly as much as before. Perhaps we have all analyzed the show so much that we've lost some of the simpleness to it that made it so enjoyable. And L&S was right about the Nancy/Jo/Ginny posts also -- they are getting *OLD!!* Let's try to get something new posted, or give some contradictions to discuss. Overall though, the board is still fun to check.

rocknroll7777 03-22-2001, 08:43 PM To tell you the truth i gained interest in the season 6,7,8,9 era because i kinda liked how they were adults and still kids kind of and getting into situations and stuff..i dunno...in a way it reminded me of "Friends"...i liked the zany first season and i always lose interest in between

If "The Facts Of Life" were all about you, why weren't u ever on the show?
FOL-FAN 03-22-2001, 10:41 PM Hey, that's funny. Didn't they say that FOL was like the Friends of the 80' once in Married with Children?
