More wonderful news folks.

I just read on the Futon Critic site that NBC is going to take the wonderful British series "The Office" and develOp an American version for probably next season.

If I may just speak to NBC and the other networks for a moment:

*Ahem*

STOP IT! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP IT!

DO NOT AMERICANIZE ANY MORE BRITISH SHOWS!

COUPLING IS A FAILURE! IT DIDN'T WORK! WE'RE NOT BUYING IT!

COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW INSTEAD OF COPYING ANOTHER'S IDEAS!

AND NOT FOR NOTHING, BUT WHY THE HELL CAN'T ANY OF YOU COME UP WITH A DECENT SITCOM FOR NATHAN LANE?

There, I feel better.
As you were.

;)

I hate NBC. They're that annoying kid in the class that copies off everyone's tests.

;) I haven't seen The Office yet but, it did look interesting. I just hope that if they bring it here to the good ole USA that it will be as good as Three's Company.

I do agree with you on COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW INSTEAD OF COPYING ANOTHER'S IDEAS!

Life is so full of ideas......... :)

well as popular as The Office is here in the UK (I have no idea why it is???) at least you dont get to see Ricky Gervais as a cast member. I cant stand him!

Oh great. Now, because of that comment, We're going to see "And Nathan Lane as David Brent" ;).I love the British show and some Britcom-to-Sitcoms have worked in the past (Three's Company, All In The Family) but some of the more reason ones (Coupling, As If) have failed miserably.Personally I'm going to give it a shot.It can't be any worse than Coupling, Can it? Besides, If they keep the theme song and keep the jokes very subtle (like the British Version), We might have a decent show.

As for the Perfect David Brent, I'm thinking either Oliver Platt (the closest thing we have to Ricky Gervais. He actually played a David Brent-ish character on last season's short-lived "Queens Supreme) or just have Ricky Gervais (star of the British series) return IMO.

Actually, since I've had a chance to calm down, there could be a possibility that this will not suck. I think the U.S. could copy the sublte wit of "Office."

But I just don't see how this kind of show will fit into NBC's comedy lineup. It's not a line-line-joke sitcom in the classic sense, so I just don't think folks will warm up to it.

I think it would be better suited for HBO.

I do like the Oliver Platt idea though.

Thank you Sitcomwriter! You have restored my faith again!

Well...Three's Company was a takeoff on a British comedy, and it was hugely popular over here...And the VERY VERY popular "Trading Spaces" TV show is based on Britain's "Changing Rooms" I think...

It can work in certain situations, but not always. So, I agree with you there. They need to stop stealing ideas from the UK!

BTW, have you noticed there's about 13462346264 spinoffs of "Trading Spaces" now? It's sickening, really. :barf:
