View Full Version : TV shows made into movies

I was just thinking about how many old TV shows have been made into movies. (some good, some not so good) I read today that they are going to make a Bewitched movie!! Will Ferrell is going to play Darren and Nicole Kidman will be Samantha. It doesn't seem like a role Nicole Kidman would do but I guess she would. I don't know when it's coming out though. Probably 2005 or 2006. I'm just curious to know what other TV shows you think should be made into movies? I think they should make a Gilligan's Island movie. Clay Aiken would be the PERFECT Gilligan IMO, but I don't know if he has any acting experience. I know know who would be the rest of the castaways.

NONE!!! Something like SWAT is the rare exception where it's okay, but for the most part, I think movies inspired by tv series are no good because it just shows Hollywood's laziness in coming up with fresh story ideas. They already know they'll have a built-in audience from fans of the series, so to me it's kind of lame when they take the easy way out. Did we really need a Charlie's Angels movie? Do we really need Bewitched or Gilligan's Island? They should let people hold on to their cherished memories of their old favorite tv shows without messing with some crappy new movie.

Eh, I don't think they should keep making tv shows into movies - even though there've been a few good ones.

Starsky and Hutch will also be hitting theaters.

Isn't there plans for a film versions of "21 Jump Street," and "The A-Team" for movies?

Yes. ohno: I grew up with both of them, and now they're going to be movies.

I have yet to see a movie from a TV show that came anywhere near as good as the original show - Addams Family may be the one exception.

Leave it to Beaver
Beverly Hillbillies
The Brady Bunch
Dennis the Menace

Some sitcoms would lend themselves to a good movie - I can see Gilligan's Island working - it has a pretty good movie setup, some shows I just can't picture. I don't think we'll ever see a movie made of Three's Company or Growing Pains ;)

Courtship of Eddie's Father started out with a movie - seems unlikely they'd make a movie based on a tv show based on a movie

There was an article in a UK newspaper a few weeks ago about Starsky and Hutch, and they were writing about other tv shows to be made into films. I can't remember them all- but Wonder Woman was listed as one of the films that people are serious about making into a movie. I don't really see the point- it'll probably lead to a new Wonder Woman Tv series or something.
I wonder if 'I Dream of Jeannie' will be made into a film to rival Bewitched- any suggestions on who could play Jeannie- maybe Renee Zellwegger.

OT: Did anyone else see those pictures of Halle Berry as Catwoman? I saw them in the newspaper and I was thinking it'd be lame- but they've reinvented Catwoman. Actually looks like it'll be a good film.

I've always said Madonna should be Ginger - although she may be a little too old for it now. Check this out:

I loved scooby doo toons when i was little, but when i saw previews of the movie, it looked dirty and i was sure id hate it.
I rented it for the children i babysit and i loved it. My lil bro has the dvd and it lives in my room. I love how the voices for Thelma and Shaggy are so dead on.

Im curious about what 21 jump street movie will be like, that was one of my fav shows when fox network came out - that and alien nation. The thing about 21 jump street is it had a good story - now, if they recast all our old favs and try to make them pretend to be the already established characters, I probably wont care for it. But, if about 15 years later, the Jump Street program is still kickin with an all new crew, it will probably be salvagable, because it's a very good premise.

Wonder if Penhall will be the new captain <G>

Don't forget:

-Garfield (I heard)
-Pacman (I heard that too)

And don't forget the terrible, HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE Super Mario Bros. movie...Video game spun into a wonderful Saturday morning cartoon that spun off into a HORRIBLE box office bomb movie. It came out in like 1992 and it was HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE.

The 3.5/10 rating on IMDb pretty much sums it up! :barf: Thank God all the actors on there are actors we have never heard of....

Whoever wrote this, sorry, it is actually true. In fact there are several shows they have talked about making into a movie even though it was a movie and a television show before. I read not to long ago about a remake of M*A*S*H* in the works, and three shows based on movies Buffy the Vampire Slayer, La Femme Nikita, and Stargate, are being considered as films, although using the cast of the respective television series.

Color me confused!! So what if it becomes a TV series again....

or like they tried to do to Lost in Space, a tv series turned into a movie, and then back into a series again . . . .

But the pilot didn't sell! Does anyone have that unaired pilot of Lost in Space from this fall season (2004) by the way?

I think the Addams Family and Brady Bunch movies were HILARIOUS. Not too much like the actual shows, more like making fun of them. And it worked perfectly.

I, for one, would love to see a Gilligan's Island movie. I mean, they already made like 3... but they sucked so bad that I was able to buy the one copy they ever had at Media Play for $3.

And Bewitched shall suck royally.

I hate it when they take a classic television and make it into a horrible movie, with stars that do not have any business playing the original characters:rolleyes:

And Burt Reynolds will be Boss Hogg(?!)

But I guess it's a step up from the cast I originally heard of, Ashton Kutcher, Paul Walker, Britney Spears, and Anthony Anderson as Boss Hogg.

The "Bewitched" movie is going to suck. Keep in mind that Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman will NOT be playing Darren and Samantha. They will be playing ACTORS who will be playing Darren and Samantha in a Bewitched remake. Too confusing and stoo stupid, and just plain unnessecary.
