This is the story trhat NBC didn't want to show. This is Tempestt Bledsoe's part. The true story! (I call it false because I am just making it up!)
Tempest Bledsoe: I didn't really like my character Vanessa. She was annoying. Every day, I would ask my mother if I HAD to go to work today, and she said yes. I would groan and get ready to go to work. Oh my goodness, I remember having to wear that hideous ugly afro. Do you hear me? I wore an afro. That wasn't my real hair, my real hair was put into an updo and was tucked under this afro. The writers and producers thought that it would have been a great idea to have me with this hairdo. I had to go through this thing for a lot of episodes, until I said that I didn't want it and threatened to make the show look bad if I was forced to continue with this. They neogotiated and that's were they decided that I would have jerry curls, I said okay. This hairstyle can be seen in "Room With No View" "Truth or Consequences".
By the 6th season, I was a little tired of the Cosby Show. I was sick of the way it was going. There were really too many people on the show! (Living in one house) Olivia, Martin, Winnie, Nelson, Russell , Denise, Vanessa, Cliff, Rudy, Claire, and Elvin. I complained until they let me "Go to college" in the 7th season. I was so thrilled! Then, the 7th season they added Pam. I and Erika Alexander weren't even on screen together so much. People called Pam my replacement. I didn't mind.
In the 8th season, they had me engaged to man named Dabnis Brickney. Denise and Martin had left, and Olivia and Pam became once again the centers of attention. Olivia more than Pam, though. I was in only six episodes!
I also thought that my character Vanessa was a little immature. She was smart, but weak-minded. I remember an episode that I as Vanessa was supposed to be fighting with Keshia/Rudy. I was thinking what kind of stupidity is this? When that episode aired, I was at leat a foot taller than Rudy. It looked so awkward that I, a tall teenager would be fighting with a little 9-year old. In the show and in real life, I am six years apart from her. This difference was nothing like the episode were I was supposed to be fighting Denise, because she and I wear about the same height, so that looked more nrmal.
Vanessa clearly had no common sense in the episode "Off to see the wretched." I mean, come on, she didn't ask for proof that the man worked with the band? She just took his word and gave him her ticket and he ran off.
Tempest Bledsoe's part, part 1. I will continue later. :-)
