Good question! sinatrastar 11-08-2003, 08:28 PM Because it takes a week to recover from a football game. Including preseason there are 20 games, and playoffs could add 4 more. The NFL season used to be 14, and college 11, now college teams play 12 and 13 games all the time. The other sports they play back to back, and with 1 day off, in football the players would fall apart if they had to do that.
