I've been watching Mr. Ed for the first time, and the show is just so enjoyable. Wilbur and Mr. Ed have the nicest conversations. It's a sweet relationship. Mr. Ed has a great personality. He's hilarious.

Wilbur's relationship with his wife is loving. The Addisons are cool. It's funny how Mr. Ed is always having a problem with Roger.

It has a small cast with simple storylines. It's a light show, but that's where its charm lies. I swear I'm getting hooked on this novelty show.

Who knew Mr. Ed was such a good show? Not me, but now I can see why it was successful. The horse is gorgeous too.

I like the Addisons too. It's just a shame that Roger's final episode is on today. (October 11) Kay remains on the show for about nine more episodes until the Kirkwoods move in next door. I love the show Mister Ed and the horse Mister Ed.

I too love "Mister Ed"! Like Janice (love that name---my fav'rite Muppet! :D ), I've just recently started watchin' it, and dang if I ain't hooked!

Ed is so funny...he's quite selfish and haughty, but this works comin' from a horse---it he were a human character with these qualities, it would just be too abrasive...if that makes sense, lol.

All the characters are so likeable, especially Wilbur---ya just can't help but love the guy! (And I'm still fascinated that this is "Uncle Scrooge"...if I think about it, I can hear it!) And yeah, Ed is a beautiful horse.

I don't know if the show ever won any kind of award, but it sure should have for "special effects" or somethin'---the way they get Mister Ed to move and talk so perfectly is amazing! :eek: :D

My young daughter loves Mr. Ed. We watch and tape it every day and she is always ready for the next episode. She really enjoys the older shows compared to most everythign else on TV today and this show is one of the highlights to her. I was laying down today while she watched the Dodgers Baseball episode (it has a weird title and TVTOME is down right now) and she just laughed and laughed. It was very cute to listen to :)

Anyhow all agreed here on this end - this show is a classic!

I think you're right about Mr. Ed getting away with his bratty behavior because he's a horse. He can be quite lovable at times, but if he were human, he'd have no friends, lol.

It's a shame about Larry Keating. I noticed he didn't look well in the Dodger's episode. I read up on him, and saw he died from leukemia.
I always feel bad when actors get a role late in their lives, and then they become terminally ill. Good roles are hard to find, especially later in life.
I think of Coach on Cheers, Aunt Clara and Gladys Kravitz on Bewitched, Yemana on Barney Miller....the list goes on.
It's sad, of course, that they get sick in the first place, but I imagine they thought to themselves that here they were on a hit show....:(

Your daughter has good taste! I recall you posting on the Bewitched board that she loves that show as well. She loves the classics--smart little cookie. :)

I think it's a cute show too. I think it's a little corny and very unrealistic, but it has creativity and origionality, which I think are two things that are sorely lacking on TV today. (How many more shows with dysfunctional families or sex-starved yuppies do we need anyway?)

When it first came back to TVLand I didnt want to watch it because it replaced Barney Miller. I started watching it though when nothing else was on, and its a pretty good show.

Well Janice ( ;) ), I recently learned through a thread on this board that Alan Young, our "Wilbur", voiced the Disney character Uncle Scrooge in "Mickey's Christmas Carol", the animated series "DuckTales", and, I assume, a few Disney shorts if he was ever in any (I can't remember off hand if was or not---and that's embarassing for a Disney buff, lol---I'll have to check one o' my Disney reference books...)

But, yeah, there ya go. :)

I love this show.
Wilbur is such a sweet man. He loves his wife and his horse who just happens to be able to talk. His neighbors, his wife at times, his vet, his doctor, his clients and other people think he is a rather odd man, but that's because he can't tell them the truth for his rather peculiar behavior.

Mr Ed is one smart, funny and rather selfish horse who talks, thinks and feels like a real human. He can sometimes test Wilburs patience, but he loves Wilbur and always means to do the right thing.

Carol, a sweet lady and a loving wife who sometimes has to play second fiddle to a horse.

The Addisons a sardonic, contentious couple who love each other and despite they thinking Wilbur is a kook, they love The Posts too.

The Kirkwoods, a retired airforce Colonel and his wife who just can't seem to break his commanding ways. He too thought Wilbur was a rather strange man.

The stories were simple and funny. Hearing Allan Rocky Lane's voice as Mr Ed over 40 years later you still swear that horse can really talk.

I remember when the show first aired in the 1960's. Gosh I was a liitle child and I really thought horses could talk. I hadn't seen many horses so I just assumed they spoke. My brothers told me it was all an act and a man did the voice while hiding near the horse. I was a bit disappointed. Now 40 years later I occasionally tune in. The horse was well trained to open the stall door, pick up a phone and do many tasks. MY only thought when I see the show is, does his wife ever find out. does any one ever over hear Ed and Wilbur talking.

In episode 2, Roger overhears Wilbur and Ed talking. But Ed quickly says that Wilbur is a ventriloquist. As far as others go, I'm not sure. This is my first real time watching the show. When it was on N@N, I watched it, but was too young to really follow it.

I am enjoying the Colonel and Winnie more as time goes by. I really like the actor who plays him. It took me awhile to get used to the show without Roger and Kay, but they made wise choices in casting after Larry Keating's untimely death.

I love Mr. Ed! I remember watching it when I was a kid. I wanted a horse just like him. Alan Young was the perfect guy to play Wilbur. I remember being upset back in the 70's when I heard Mr. Ed had passed away. Great show!

I'd like to rent The Time Machine with Alan Young & Rod Taylor. He also wrote Mickey's Christmas Carol and did the voice of Scrooge McDuck. He also did the voice of one of The Smurfs. Won an Emmy in 1951 for The Alan Young Show.
