One of my FAVORITE TOPICS!! Though neither of them have ever admitted it, and both were married to other people at the time of filming IDOJ, they in my and many other's opinions were MUCH more, if you get my drift. he he. There is a good bit of evidence to support our theory that they were. If you search back through old topics on this board I think all the reason are listed somewhere, me and Ruth used to chat about this a LOT. lol. On the set of A Howling In the Woods, filmed in the 70's, there was a rumor that Larry and Barbara, who played the lead characters and were husband and wife in it, were VERY close during this as well. I used to know all the evidence we had, but I must have replaced that space in my mind with evidence about Dee and Drake, woah Off Topic I best hush or I'll start rambling about their affair. lol. I have pics from the set of A Howling In the Woods if any of you would like to see them, I'll post them.

Hola amigos: :D

It's always an interesting topic. Larry and Barbara are so wonderful actors, as Jeannie and Tony they are the perfect couple. They had so much chemistry and still they are so good together as shown on the Larry King show, I dream of Jeannie reunion on June 2,2003.

There were so beautiful moments on that reunion. Larry called Barbara "Honey" twice, another time they were laughing
about something that Bill Daily said and Barbara touched
Larry's arm in a sweet gesture. It was so great to see them together again.

Maybe some of the friends of the Board , specially I dream of Jeannie and Seniors members can refresh or can elaborated more examples about the relationship Larry and Barbara off-screen and on-screen.

But, maybe it's the magic of these wonderful characters that we like so much. :)

Sí !Make you question if Larry and Barbara had something beside friendship and working relations by the way they act on TV. ;)

Tomember I Dream of Jeannie we would like to see some pics about A Howling In the Woods. I remembered that I saw that movie in a local channel years ago, here in Puerto Rico. We will
like to see that movie again. Please let me know if I can find it on the Internet. Thanks for you response.

Barbara Eden's character was on some camping trip hoping to figure out why her marriage is failing to Larry Hagman's character and Larry's character follows her and is trying to get Barbara Eden's character his wife, who is back at her hometown facing her past (some bad past) to forget about it and to come home with him. I hear that this was a good movie too, Barbara Eden plays the disillusioned wife and Larry Hagman plays her loving husband who is trying to save his marriage with her. I think there name are Liza and Eddie.

I know this question has been asked millions of times, but I am pretty confident that Larry and Barbara's relationship was strickly platonic. Remember: both were married during the duration of the show and Barbara was a new mother...I think the last thing on her mind was having an affair with her co-star. I've also heard Larry say (in an interview) he said "There are three questions I am always asked and here are my answers: One ...yes, Barbara Eden is as beautiful off screen as she is on. Two...yes, she doses have a navel. And three,” he said, laughing, “no I never did”. I think the last answer proves that they were and are nothing more than very close friends.

Me and Meagan use to talk about this all the time! My friend Dana who I use to live with, who Meagan knows, her father was friends with a director in Hollywood, I've meet her father but never this director, though I wish I did. Well this director guy told Dana that in Hollywood stars most likey end up having relationships with their co-stars or 99% of the time have feelings for their co-stars due to the fact that you ended up working so close to them. He said half of what happens in Hollywood only ends up in gossip magazines, the rest we don't get to find out :(

Larry Hagman and Barabara Eden I think could have had something their for each other but never acted on it. Don't forget Barbara Eden's marriage was coming to a end and and had been on the rocks for a while.

Barbara Eden left her husband and was off at some other part of the country filming A Howling in The Woods.

"A Howling In The Woods" Was a great movie. I've seen it over and over. Barbara Eden plays a fashion designer who wants to settle down and have family with her husband Larry Hagman, who plays a porn photographer. When her husband put his career first and wants children later she takes off to visit her father and wants to leave her husband. Twist is her father's not there and he never told Liza (Barbara Eden) that he was leaving town. Everyone in town start actting strange and Liza doesn't know what the hell is going on. Then her loving husband comes down leaving his job behind and giving up everything to give her the family she always wanted. Liza say still thinks it wouldn't work out. Eddie (Larry Hagman) leaves but starts thinking about what was going on there and all the things his wife told him. He turns around and heads back to find out what everyone is hiding from his wife. Liza's step mother is more than happy when Eddie comes back only because she wants Liaz out of the way. Eddie figures something is going on with her step mother. Liaz wants to know wants going on and her husband tells her something is going on too. Liaz finds out the town was hiding some thing but finds out the real truth but which also mean her death..... If you want to details ask I'll post it but I'll really don't wanna give it away.

Hey Meagan I still have your copy of the movie just buzz me! And Did you catch the 6th season of Charmed?

On a GROSS NOTE!

They have a Charmed episode this season called I Dream Of Phoebe

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Sorry if there are any people here who watch Charmed and like Phoebe, I just find her very freekin' annoying! And I always thought Piper (the picture under my name) was more like Jeannie than Phoebe. In the sense that when Piper married Leo the hottie she said "I want to take care of Leo, I want to cook for him and I want to dress for him" Piper wanted to be the perfect wife for Leo. See that's all Jeannie wanted to do for Major Nelson.

Even though Leo and Piper are divorced now... well getting divorced even though they still love each other but it's the twisted world of Charmed and will be back together again, I would rather see Paige/Rose McGowan as Jeannie, she can be funny like Jeannie was sometimes. I'd pick Rose McGowan over Alyssa Milano any day - sorry I don't hate Milano.

I'm gonna post this on the Charmed Board

When Larry said "no, I never did" he was implying that he never made a move on Barbara...or never "did anything" with her.

A Howling in the Woods is a very difficult movie to find. It came out long before VCRs were every-home items, and has never (to my knowledge) been released on VHS or DVD. If someone has it, they caught one of its RARE appearances on a cable channel someplace. I've been watching for it for over 4 years and have yet to see it on the air.

I finally got a copy through a friend - but it's NOT a good copy and wouldn't even make another copy well. (That's how I got one of the IDOJ reunion movies, too.) But it was a wonderful movie (through all the sound glitches, etc. in the copy).

I know the chemistry appears to be SO strong between Larry and Barbara. In March, in EVERY talk show they appeared in, they held hands or sat close to each other. Also, when I met Barbara (2 years and a few months ago), I heard her answer another fan's question that she talks to larry quite often. It's nice that they're still friends.

That's nice it's so rare these days to have someone you can count on and feel so comfortable with...seeing, as in Barbara's and Larry's case, they've known each other for 40 years now and still don't mind being together onstage, on TV or elsewhere. I guess that most actors would just go separate ways the minute a show or a movie ends..the fact that they still talk on a fairly regular basis is just wonderful and I'm really happy for them...good friends are so hard to find...

I saw a couple of pictures online from shows Barbara and Larry had appeared in and yes, I saw them holding hands and sitting close to each other but since I'm in Germany I never got to watch them. Heard so much about this movie in the 70s but never have seen that one either. Too sad that Larry and Barbara can't come to Europe for the "I Dream of Jeannie" DVD sets, to promote them a little bit.

I used to be friends with two Hollywood actors - both had appeared on a television show - and they were best friends on the set and continued to be after the show had been cancelled. They kept talking to each other on the phone and in emails and went through a lot and everytime I talked to them I heard nothing but good words about the other person. These two people were two men though so nothing to

but there you see that this kind of friendship still exists even if it is rare...so the way I see things Barbara and Larry should cherish what they have there, they have real chemistry, they obviously are very close and fond of each other, whether they ever had more than that we'll never know but they could have made a great couple seeing how they are with each other.

My 2 cents

....had great chemistry on and off camera, but anyone who knew Larry Hagman also knew that he could be very demanding (and a bit of a pain)
during filming. He always seemed to be arguing with Sidney Sheldon, the directors [he got Gene Nelson fired after the first handful of episodes filmed], the writers, Screen Gems executives [Jackie Cooper had to remind him the show wasn't called "I Dream Of Larry"], anyone connected with the show, over how much he could and couldn't do on camera. At times, Larry wasn't the easiest man in the world to work with. I could see how a lot of "Tony Nelson's" mannerisms and anger were channeled through Hagman. He wanted to improvise more {that's why Bill Daily says working with him was great, as Bill often "winged" it himself at times}, and have more of a say over how each episode was conceived. This is why Sidney gave Larry a chance to direct three episodes in 1967.

However, after Larry's sudden breakdown in early 1968, working on the show became a BURDEN to him. It affected everything he did during the final two seasons. Notice that, for the most part in the 1968-'69 season, Barbara and Larry actually worked SEPARATELY in almost every episode. They would appear in one or two "key scenes" together, and then each would interact with the other cast members or be "joined together in the editing room". Examples of these episodes include "Jeannie and The Wild Pipchicks", "Abdullah", "Have You Heard The One About the Used Car Salesman?", "The Indispensible Jeannie", "How To Marry An Astronaut", "Ride 'Em Astronaut" (the ending had to cribbed from "Tony's Wife" because Larry wasn't available to film the final scene), "Invisible House For Sale", and "Laugh-In". It wasn't until late that season did Larry feel "comfortable" working with Barbara on camera again. I believe the only reason Larry stuck with "JEANNIE" for a final season was the opportunity to star in a Screen Gems-produced TV movie {for ABC's "MOVIE OF THE WEEK") called "Three's A Crowd" in December 1969- which aired a half-hour AFTER "The Wedding" episode- AND the 1971-'72 series he starred in for Screen Gems, "THE GOOD LIFE".

One other thing- Larry once said Barbara reminded him of his mother, Mary Martin....and he claimed their physical similarities sometimes made it uncomfortable for him to work with her.

Well, TV Knowledge Fan, you appear to know a lot about the two stars...why else would you call yourself "TV Knowledge Fan", always nice to have people with a wealth of information such as you :) around.

I heard the same stories about Larry being problematic back then, it seems though that he's tried to change over the years when I see his family motto...whether this applies to his family life only though I don't know...

I read an article a couple of days ago that said that when you grow older you seem more relaxed and happy maybe because you've dealt with many pleasant/unpleasant things in your life and you've come to a point where you realize that it's wasting energy to put yourself through all the trouble and complain about everything you can't have the way you want.

Maybe it's also the health issues he's had over the past that made him look at life in a different light..I can relate to his alcohol problems in a way since my father had to go through a similiar situation but in his case it was the pancreas and he was told by the doctor to stop drinking and it's like a vicious circle, you can't really get out of it even if you want to and sometimes it takes people who are close to you to help you with this.

I've always enjoyed watching "I Dream of Jeannie", it's one of those classic shows you don't get tired of watching over and over again so I'm really thrilled that Sony decided to release the show on DVD.

As for Barbara reminding Larry of his mother. I noticed that sometimes Larry appeared a bit scared and insecure on the show when facing Barbara, that could of course also be his character, hard to tell when people are acting and some actors are very good actors.

....your comments, 'BSDDomi'. Keep this in mind as well- when Larry was in Canada at Expo 67 to promote the show in the summer of 1967, someone asked him if he was THE Larry Hagman of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE". He replied, "Yeah, I'm the guy with the broad in the bottle". His attitude towards the series then was seeping through his public appearances.

As for being "afraid" of Barbara, maybe it was acting, maybe it was his interpretation of the script, maybe she DID remind him of his mother a bit too much at times, I don't know.......

Yes not a very wise move indeed...maybe Larry has learned from his mistakes...actors sometimes seem to get carried away and they don't realize it's the fans who made them who they are because without them they'd probably be sitting in a dark corner at the end of the street and no-one would even bother to talk to them...I'd be very careful with what I say to others who admire me as an actor because it might ruin my reputation..then again some people speak before they think and well, it happens to all of us...sometimes we simply regret things we've said but we can't change them anyway, time to move on and hope that the sun may shine brighter for us next time ;)

I remember reading that for a lot of years Larry didn't like discussing IDOJ especially during the height of Dallas. That's probably why he didn't appear in the reunion movies. It's great seeing him with Barbara and Bill just discussing the show again. He seems very relaxed now.

BSDDomi

Yes. I suppose he didn't feel as comfortable back then as he does now being reunited with his former co-stars and talking about the show. Sometimes it takes actors a while to be able to talk again about shows they did a long time ago, usually because of something 'bad' that is related to that particular show.

...MCA/Universal used to release most of its TV movies (especially the "World Premiere Movies" produced for NBC in the '60s and '70s) theatrically in Europe and Latin America [they never wasted footage or an opportunity to make money in foreign markets as well]- that's why there's a "theatrical" poster for the Spanish language version of "A Howling In The Woods".

They also released "ersatz" features reedited from their "one and two season wonders" {"KRAFT SUSPENSE THEATER", "PISTOLS 'N' PETTICOATS", "MR. TERRIFIC", "THE ROAD WEST", the 1961-'62 color season of "TALES OF WELLS FARGO", "THE OUTSIDER", "TAMMY", etc. ad nauseam}.

I don't think I've ever seen "A Howling In The Woods" - has this movie ever been broadcast on German TV??! - but from what I've heard and read it seems to be a nice, entertaining movie.
