View Full Version : Another thing I've always wondered...

In the amusement park episode, when they are all carrying the recovered plans "relay-race style" across the park, why do the boys pass it off to Carol at the end?

I mean, Peter and Greg were REALLY hauling butt there, and they didn't have much farther to run anyway. So why would they pass the plans off to Carol, for her to run in those big, clompy shoes, when the boys obviously could have gotten them to Mike much quicker, thus possibly saving his career?

Oh yeah---ANOTHER thing about that episode that always bugs me: Bobby and Cindy were plenty old enough to know the seriousness of the situation with the lost plans, Mike's job on the line. So WHY did they waste time eating instead of looking? If those were my kids, I'd tear their butts up for being so irresponsible!

I think they wanted Carol to be the hero. Anyway, everyone looks so out of shape when they're running. I don't think Bobby and Cindy were the only ones who were chowing down.

I think they wanted Carol to be the hero also. Maybe the parents had been fighting recently and they thought it would be a good idea to help their relationship.

Have you noticed that the Brady's were the only ones in the park not wearing shorts?

And that was a real ugly outfit that Jan had on.

Why didn't they wear shorts...even at home? Geez, they lived in California.

I just remembered something dumb in that episode. In the tag, Peter says he's going to wear an animal costume all day for $5.00!! They'll probably never go to Kings Island again. Why would he want to waste his time wearing a HOT outfit instead of going on rides for a measly five bucks?? No kid would really do that!

Yes I agree that was hidious outfit that Jan had on, and I've always wondered why they never wore shorts too I think in the early eps the girls did some but never in the later ones

The girls wore shorts in the first season, but not after that.

I was thinking that Peter was going to wear the costume just for lunch like the girl did for her brother before. Maybe I'm wrong, though. What gets me about that part is that . . . let's see if I can explain this. When Greg was trying to find Marge, he borrowed that costume to get into the employees' area. So that was not the costume Marge (or her brother) wore, which means it's not the costume Peter should have been wearing. Does that make sense?

$5.00 back then would be like $20 today.

You're right, but if you took your family out of state to Kings Island and asked your kid, "Would you rather go on the rides or wear a hot, bulky costume for $20.00?", I'm sure the kid would pick the rides.

After going to the Grand Canyon and Hawaii, I wonder if this vacation was kind of a let down for the Bradys.

It's kind of a strange coincidence that Marcia and Jan just happen to go into the same boat that they were in before and find the plans.

Jan always says "a bear poster", and they show the poster of Yogi Bear, but Yogi is never mentioned by name.

Mike, as usual, is a wet blanket in this episode. He is the only one who doesn't run through the amusement park and is the only one not to ride the roller coaster.

In the other episodes, Alice always gets sea sick when she has to ride in a boat. Yet in this episode, she rides all of the rides and never complains about being nauseated. Did she buy some Dramamine???

Seriously. "Hey gang, remember the trip to the Grand Canyon? And last year's trip to Hawaii? Well, for this year's season premiere, we're going to...Ohio! Woo-hoo!"

I never noticed that before, but you're right. I did read that Robert Reed saved everyone's lives, because after the camera was mounted on the front of the coaster, he didn't think it would hold and insisted that the producers run the coaster through without anyone in it. The coaster came back without the camera, and had anyone been in the car during that first run-through, they would have gotten clocked by the camera (and those 70s cameras were heavy). So I guess I can't blame Bob too much for passing on the ride, even after they got a better mounting.

I believe that during the last season Jan wore a pair of shorts while dancing in the tap shoes in Episode #106, "Try, Try Again", a beige pair of shorts if memory serves. Remember the scene with her tap dancing in the bathroom, while the boys were next door in their bedroom helping Greg with a song? (Up until recently I thought the bathroom was directly above the boys' bedroom when I considered Jan's tap dancing--the boys acted as if it were coming from above!)

I do remember her wearing the shorts for tap dancing, but for just walking around the house I didn't see them wear shorts any more.

Regarding Alice, she did look kind of dizzy after one of the rides and said something about leaving her stomach on the ride.

In Growing Up Brady, Barry Williams writes that oddly enough, the cast was excited about going to King's Island.

Robert Reed did not like Roller Coasters. It is plausible that Mike Brady got squeamish on them too. I also read that he might have saved the Brady's lives by doing the test run.

Jan looked cute in shorts.

I forgot about Alice and that ride. She and Carol were getting off the ride that looked like a roulette wheel when she made that comment.

I am not completely sure because I have not seen this episode in a while, but I do not think Bobby And Cindy were eating when they were looking for the plans:confused:
Maybe they were? I'll have to watch next time. I remeber at lunch
Bobby and Cindy saying they could share a kid's meal. Carol said what did I tell you kids about eating so much.

When they are looking for the plans, Bobby suggests that they look in the pizza parlor. Cindy says that Jan didn't mention anything about eating pizza. Then Bobby says that while they're looking they might as well help themselves to some pizza.

She sure did :eyes:

It would have been great to see Jan in shorts more often during the last season of the show...Marcia, of course, looked great in her mini skirts :eyes:

Since this was the only instance of Jan wearing shorts during season 5, I think this episode should have been expanded into a two hour TV movie...

I have some more "Did you notice" moments from this episode.

*After Carol drops off the plans to Mike and his co-workers, the rest of the Brady tribe runs up just 10 seconds later. How is that possible? They were all scattered around the park by a pretty fair distance, especially Marcia, Jan and Alice. Maybe they hopped on the park train?

*Also from the scene where Carol drops off the plans and the rest of the Brady tribe runs up - Look at the ground, it looks like it's raining. Yet several seconds earlier when Peter and Greg pass the sketches to Carol, the sun is shining. (Maybe this scene was shot on a different day?)

*We all know that Robert Reed refused to go on the roller coaster, but if you look closely, you can't see Susan Olsen (Cindy) on it either. The front car shows Jan and Bobby, behind them is Carol and Alice, behind them is Greg and Marcia, and behind them is Peter sitting with some unknown women. Cindy isn't seen at all. (Maybe Susan Olsen didn't want to go the roller coaster either?)

*I watched this episode when they did "Pop up Brady" on Nick at Night. Look at the scene where the Brady's are sitting at the picnic area getting ready to eat lunch. Several people at the picnic tables behind them keep turning around and staring at them. I guess the people knew that the Brady's were filming and they couldn't resist turning around.

In Barry Williams book "Growing up Brady," he said the cast looked forward to going to King's Island. Since they were celebreties, they were allowed to cut to the front of every line in the every ride they wanted to go on. After a while, the tourists were angry about that.

This is my husband's favorite episode - he likes to watch Marcia and Jan running through the park. :p

If you really pay attention, you'll notice that Peter is in two places at once!

Also the plot to this episode was very thin, so no wonder this one wasn't turned into another three-part extravaganza!

There's really not much they could have said about the park without turning the whole thing into one big commerical!

Remember, this was back in the days when people sat around drinking Pipsi and watching UBS news on their Suny TV sets!

The hotel was cheap looking enough--the cast actually stayed there while filming and they did not have good things to say about it!

One thing that bothered me about his is why Mike didn't just keep both of the tubes. If Jan was so worried about her poster that would be a good way to safeguard it and it would have been a sure way of avoiding the mixup which really should have been anticipated.
