I was wondering...are there any 4th, 5th or 6th season eps that actually take place in Lucy's apartment? Out of all the 5th season eps I've seen, it seems more of just a change of scenery set than anything truly lived in or made to look real, etc...most of the action seems to take place at the bank or wherever Lucy seems to be. Even more rare is the kitchen set in her apartment. I've seen maybe 2 glimpses of it out of about 35 episodes...why wasn't her house used as often? And since I haven't seen the 4th & 6th seasons thoroughly, were there any during those years that centered around it? Any extra input appreciated!

Good question- and Fidelman's 'T Lucy Book' points out that we only saw Lucy Carmichael's bedroom ONE time during the whole six years. ..and THAT was back in Danfield not LA!
It seems the LA apartment had a single bedroom with only room for a small mattress as evinced by the number of times we'd see Lucy camped on on her couch when folks like her aunt (the wonderful Mary Wickes) came to visit- but (like 'The Honeymooners' Kramdens bedroom) we never SAW it!

It had to have more than one bedroom though, because Carol Bradford (?) was Lucy's roomate for a couple episodes. Those were the two where Carol Burnett was a guest star. Whatever happened to her character anyway?

I have trouble picturing what the Danfield set would look like from the studio audience.

Would they be looking at the wall with the front door? Or the wall with the staircase?

Do any pictures exist that would show this?

I'd like to resurrect this topic? WAS there an episode that took place entirely in the California apartment?

I don't remember any episodes that took place entirely in Lucy's apartment, but a great deal of "Lucy and Phil Harris" did. Lucy kept Phil Harris from leaving her apartment by hiding his pants!

It seems like quite a lot of time was spent in the apartment in the fourth season. She didn't go to work for Mr. Mooney until the 7th episode, and even then (at least during the 4th season) it was just a part-time job. Most of the episodes in the fourth season had at least one scene in the apartment, and in several of the episodes most of the action took place in her apartment. I'm thinking there were probably ten episodes in the fourth season where we saw her kitchen. We even got to see her back patio that season, as well as the community laundry room. And in one episode, we got to see inside the apartment of one of her neighbors. The fifth and sixth seasons had more action in the office and less in the apartment. Lucy's bedroom remained elusive all along.

Fidelman's book contains numerous errors. Lucy's bedroom was seen a second time in season 3, "Lucy and the Monsters". Though it looks a lot like what is previously seen as Viv's room, from the dialog it is clear that it's Lucy's.

Fidelman went to great pains to point out errors in other books about Lucy's sitcoms, but he made another error in misidentifying which of Roberta Sherwood's sons appeared w/ her in Lucy Show Season 2. She appeared w/ son Robert Lanning on this show, not her older, taller son, Jerry Lanning, who had appeared on Dick Van Dyke's Season 1 ep "The Twizzle".

While we're picking on Fidelman, one of the biggest errors in his book is listing "Carol + 2" as airing January 15, 1967. This was actually the repeat airing. The special originally aired almost a year earlier, on March 22, 1966. Maybe we should start a new thread on this :)

Fidelman's book is to be updated and reprinted by Bear Media but no date has been mentioned yet. This will probably include corrections to updates, as well as recently discovered Lucy TV appearances as well.

...was slightly altered from episode to episode, depending upon the evening's plot. Often, it was merely used as a "starting point" from which Lucy Carmichael's latest misadventure would unfold. Other times, as in the 1967 episode where she refreshes Don Rickles on the art of boxing, the set was slightly expanded to take advantage of such scenes. But to me, it was never presented the same way twice...

Yes, the Don Rickles episode you mention is the one that came to mind when I saw this topic. I'm going to watch the Robert Goulet episode again to see if much time is spent in the apartment that time.

What are the differences? I was comparing the Don Rickles episode to the Dean Martin episode and the final Vivian Vance episode from '68, and I couldn't see anything different at all, except there were more long shots in the Rickles episode because they were running big circles around the apartment.

Watch the Lucie Arnaz interview on the season 1 DVD set.
There is a wonderful shot of the set during the filming of Lucy is a Referee.
