Hi,
I think Cindy is perfect for the part of Donny's Mom. She is sympathetic and her character is very caring. She is somewhat insane but she is playing a sitcom character! I feel she will be very helpful to the family in time of grief. IMO Shelley Long was not "long" for the role.
