In the end of the season with Julia Duffy, Annie Potts took some time off to (I think) have a baby. But, in the season before, she was trying to get pregnant and never was able to. So, can someone explain why they tried to get her pregnant, and when she did, they didn't discuss it on the show?

I'm bumping this because it never got answered. Plus, with the renewed interest of the show (since it's going on N@N), it might get a response.

I've wondered this, too. If you look closely in the season with Julia Duffy, you can see her growing belly, and I think it would have been wise to incorporate her pregnancy into the show. I think part of the reason why they didn't follow through with this is because no one was sure as to how much longer the show would be on for (only a season more), and to start a whole new idea towards the end of the show may have done even more damage to the ratings. Personally, I love Mary Jo, and I would have loved to see that happen.

Well I don't remember for sure, but didn't the character stop trying to get pregnant? Or at the very least, after that miscarriage it really wasn't an active storyline anymore, right? So maybe it wasn't something they wanted to dig back up a year later. And could the timing have been off too? I mean, to work a pregnancy into the show (or hide one) the actor has to be obviously showing during a lot of the filming. Maybe she wasn't, and they would have had to use some prosthetics for part or all of it and decided it wasn't worth it, especially as was mentioned, when they didn't know the future of the show, either?
