Street date & up for preorder!
10/16/2003

Fox hasn't officially announced it yet, but one of our e-tail partners, DVDEmpire.com, has put In Living Color - Season 1 up for preorder this morning.

Here is the (very short) description given by the online retailer:
The first season of the comedy show that crossed every line with their crude humor and introduced a new generation of comedy talent!

The release date is shown to be Feb. 3, 2004, with a list price of $39.98 (and DVDEmpire customers will get 25% taken off of their preorder purchase). The only other spec listed right now is a running time of 299 minutes, which sounds just right for the complete run of 13 first-season episodes of the show, at a half hour each.

Those of you interested in those episode titles and the sketches in each of them can check out the In Living Color episode guide at TVTome.com (a site that is a wonderful resource).

Stay tuned to us for the official announcement for this release from Fox Home Video, just as soon as they make it available.

I sure hope that February 3rd is correct. I really really want to get this DVD set :)

And once, again, another update from www.tvshowsondvd.com

Now it's official!
10/16/2003

We said earlier that we'd bring you Fox's official announcement for In Living Color - Season 1 as soon as it came out. The announcement is out! And good timing, too, since now DVDPlanet.com is also taking preorders for the set.

This is the first season of the comedy show that crossed every line with their crude humor and introduced a new generation of comedy talent. Verified as street dating on 2/3/04, this will be a 3-disc set running at 299 minutes. Also verified was the list price of $39.98, but now we also know that in Canada it runs CA$54.98 prior to street price discounting. With soundtracks in English and Spanish Dolby Surround (plus English subtitles, too), the following content is provided in 1.33:1 fullscreen video just like it orginally aired:

Disc 1
Episodes: "Pilot", "The Wrath of Farrakhan", "Lean On Me Beautiful", "Transitions", "A Date With Grace Jones"
Commentaries on select episodes
Featurette - "Looking Back In Living Color - The First Season"
Disc 2
Episodes: "Jheri's Kids", "Don King - The Early Years", "Endangered Species", "Introducing...Homey D. Clown", "Vera Dimilo"
Commentary on episode 7 by Tommy Davidson.
Disc 3
Episodes: "Anton in The People's Court", "Conspiracy", "Homey D. Clown Returns"
Commentary on selected episodes
"In Living Color - The First Season" featurette
"Back in Step with the Fly Girls" featurette
HBO Comedy Festival 2001

So now it's official :) I know I'll be sure to get it on that very day.

No mention of any of the musical performances being included. I did watch the show all the time when it was on the air, but I'm not so crazy about it that I'd buy it. I'm always a proponent of full season sets but in this case if they released dvds of specific sketches, like the Best of Men On Film or the Best of Homey The Clown, that may be an interesting option for some potential buyers.

'Bout time! The tape I have of the show is really old. I'm looking forward to getting all my favorite skits in better sound quality, like the music video parodies, and all the Calhoun Tubbs and Loomis Simmons sketches.
