This is truly a very sad day in the NHL. He was so young, and his own teammate's reckless driving killed him. I have lost all respect for Heatley, Snyder RIP. Hey TJ, you're in Atlanta, how's things there?:( :crying: :crying:

For those hockey fans living in the US, you would probably know more about this, do you think Dany Heatley serve any time in prison?

I'm not in the US, but I heard that he could serve up to 15 years. I hope he gets a lot.

This is awful news, as a Thrashers fan since the start I am very sad for all those involved. This was going to be our year to make the playoffs.

The emotional guilt that he has for the rest of the life is more then enough, I doubt he serves anymore then a year (if that) due to a plea bargain. He was my favorite player and I don't know if he will be in a Thrashers uniform if/when he comes back. He could be traded or allowed to sign with another team. In Atlanta, he would be under constant scrutiny and the memories may be too tough for him.

You may or may not be aware of this, but Craig Mactavish, who is the coach of the Edmonton Oilers, did serve a year in prison, for killing someone, while driving drunk. I believe he was with Boston at the time, and upon release from jail, was traded to Edmonton.

I think Dany Heatley should get the punishment, that if anyone of us did the same thing, should get.

My feeling is since hockey is not as popular in the US as the other sports, is celebrity status won't help him much.

the injury to his knee means he wont be playing this season even if he was free too...

Dany Heatley was a young guy with too much money to throw around, and he made a poor decision that cost his friend his life and possibly will cost him his career.... I don't think that he'll spend time in prison ( or much anyways) , more because it wont really fix anything - he's already got the message that he screwed up big time, it would be a lot more productive if they use this as a way to send a message to people

think about it this way... if YOU were 25 years old and had enough money to throw away on a Ferrari, and were basically free to do pretty much whatever you wanted, how far away from a mistake like that would you be?

such a tragic death that should not have happened, my thoughts and prayers go out to all his friends and family and community :( RIP

More of a message would be sent to people, if Dany Heatley went to jail.

I've been doing a lot of reading on this, and apparently the people living in the atlanta neighborhood, where this happened, want him punished.

Also, the lawyer or lawyers defending Dany, are the same that defended Ray Lewis a few years back.
