View Full Version : Something I noticed about Tim Daly

ok, so, you guys know how, on a number of occasions, I've said that besides the fact that Tim Daly is a wonderfully talented actor, a gorgeous guy, and a seemingly all-around nice person from what I've read about him, that there's something else about him that I really like, but I couldn't really figure out what it is. there's just *something*.
Well, I figured it out.
Have any of you noticed that he has an incredibly expressive face? I don't know why it took me so long to notice it, but I just did!
It's like, when he's acting, it seems like it's effortless for him to show all of these emotions. A lot of people seem to have only a few facial expressions for everything they feel. But then with some people, their faces are so expressive, you can tell exactly what they're feeling, and that's really how it is with him. I'm not really explaining this as well as I'd like to. lol. But, I think that's why a lot of times, I'm so captivated by him on screen. I've noticed it on "Wings", and I also noticed it on "The Fugitive". I've been watching the reruns of that show, and the part he plays on "The Fugitive" is a lot more serious than Joe Hackett, and his character on that show goes through a lot of different emotions, and it's amazing to see all these different feelings flash across his face, and in his eyes.
So yeah, next time you watch Wings, or one of his other TV shows or movies, watch for that.
Am I the only weird one who's noticed this? or do other people agree with me? hehe

Yes, I've noticed that about Tim too.....He's very good at different facial expressions, and many times it's fun to watch him as he sits on the sidelines and silently reacts to other characters' lines with those expressive reactions.

Oh yes definitely! I noticed that right away. Steven Webber is an expressive actor, but at the same time he's subtle, but Tim you feel like you are feeling what Joe or the character he's playing is feeling :) :)

I like that Steven Webber is a bit on the subtle side with his expressions, but watching Tim is a lot more fun. I love actors who use that side of themselves when they're acting.

Definitely! That's why they play off of each other so well. Thomas Hayden Church is very expressive as well. I have laughed so hard alot of times at the expressions "Lowell" gets on his face sometimes. :)

That's also why Antonio works so well with the other characters. I've mentioned this before, but one of the funniest things about Antonio is his deadpan, straight face as he delivers funny lines...and his expressionless face is HILARIOUS when you pair that with the expressive facial reactions of the rest of the cast!

Well, being the show it is, it's good the actors are very expressive. I usually like more subtle acting, cos then you're less likely to notice that someone's actually 'acting'. It's more realistic. But for a sitcom I think Wings characters are very realistic, really lively.

Hey everyone! I'm back!

I think this is a great topic!! Very astute observations!!! I totally agree, Tim Daly DOES have a very expressive face and he plays wonderfully against Steven Weber, who's much more subtle. Both traits go so well with their characters.

yeah, I mean, the way Thomas Haden Church plays Lowell, there's like, 2 major facial expressions that he uses- the "duh" look, and that HUGE grin. hehe.
and you're right about the way Tony Shalhoub plays Antonio- he's always SO deadpan, and that makes the stuff he says that much funnier.
And Steven Weber always makes these dramatic facial expressions.
But I dunno. wth Tim, it's different. Some people just naturally have really expressive faces, and he's one of those people. It's like he doesn't really try to make all of those facial expressions. They just happen. lol.

Well, I'm glad so many people responded. I felt like a weirdo, for some reason, when I started this topic. haha.

That's so true, Topanga. Me, too! And with Antonio as well.

ITA as well... you can tell what Joe is thinking most of the time just by looking at his face. That's one thing that makes him a really kind of realistic, likable character.

::gets warm fuzzies for Joe::

He also has that deadpan look. I remember when he used to talk with his head cocked at an angle, to be more "dumb".
I DO love Thomas' smile, though.
Alot of people think the creases make him look ugly, but I think he's pretty darned cute with them.
Plus, he has the blueist eyes I've ever seen, they're a kind of sky blue/translucent/dark blue mix, depending on the point of light.

haha yeah, I love his smile too.
I love it, in that episode where Lowell makes Roy a mug with a picture of Lowell's face on it, and he says, "it's a MUG with my MUG on it!" and he holds it up next to his face and smiles really huge to match the picture on the mug. hahaha that's just soooo cute.
that reminds me-
Roy: "Lowel, what is in your head."
Lowell: "well, from now on, hot beverages!"
(or something like that.)
